Mouse, keyboard, operating system?

Anything you already have, that can be reused? Case? Psu? DVD burner?
 
well my case is a total flop it has no back cover, has some dodgy stock 350w psu
mouse and keyboard can be taken outta my pocket
and i aint got no 64 bit os sooo....prob need os too

A 5830 pushes it 40 pounds over your budget, unless you can afford too?

Its pre-built.
its pre-overclocked.

Edit. The motherboard wont run a second card at the same speed as the first, it only does 16X and 4X speed for the first and second slot respectively.

You would want to do a reinstall of windows and all newest drivers for the large change in hardware, so unless you have a windows disk to reinstall from?

If you don't need harddrive or Windows included it this, then this does seem to be decent out-of-the-box performance for the budget (because of the pre-overclock). Hwoever the motherboard in the bundle won't be able to crossfire properly, because of the 2nd PCI-E only offer 4x.


You could probably get a Phenom II X4 build (no pre-overclock included- buying parts individually) for that price range.

Phenom II X4 no Crossfire build, with USB3.0 and 6Gb/s SATA motherboard:

I would still go for the Zalman Z7 Plus Midi Tower Case instead of the Coolermaster Elite 334 Midi Case

The Coolermaster Elite 334 only comes with the rear 120mm fan, whereas the Zalman Z7 Plus is spacy, well-laid out and comes with front, rear and side, and side-panel fans by default.

How good is a pheno x4 blk in terms of gaming?
and i think dad wont mind pushing up the budget if it makes it more future proof

It's AMD's new architecture CPUs that's gonna come out in 2011. But would it be a i5 750@4GHz or i7 920@4GHz killer, that is still remain to be seen.

And to answer you question about Phenom II X4 performance, a Phenom II X4 965BE at stock speed 3.40GHz is more or less on the same level and speed as i5 750/i7 920 at stock speed 2.66GHz for gaming. However, the gaps in terms of speed widen when overclock comes into play.

Let's assume a Phenom II X4 955BE overclock from 3.20GHz to 4.00GHz, that would be a 25% overclock. Whereas the i5 750 or i7 920 overclock from 2.66GHz to 4.00GHz, it would be a 50% overclock.

So to put it into contrast, a Phenom II X4 955/965BE at 4.00GHz would only be as fast as a i5 750 and i7 920 at 3.33GHz (25% overclock).

The Phenom II X4 at 4.0GHz would be just about fast enough to keep up with a 5970 or a pair of 5850 in Crossfire without CPU bottleneck, whereas the i5 750/i7 920 at 4.00GHz would be fast enough to to have a pair of 5870 in Crossfire and still have some breathing room left (some people might choose to have a 5970 crossfire with a 5870).
