Do you let other people drive your pride and joy? do you get stressed when they do?

Just had an email from my dad whom i have gifted my mx-5 to whilst i am overseas, he emailed to tell me he kindly put the car through its mot and it passed with no worries and also put two new tyres on the rear, this is where the happiness ends, two povo spec one's ignoring my request for Eagle f1's and me telling him i'd pay if he got a quote.

The good news was also followed by the fact he nearly put the car in the ditch on the way to the MOT station whilst driving 'spiritidly', now my dad saying he nearly had an off is a big thing being he used to do track and rally driving... now i am worrrying when i get the msg that my beloved mx5 of 7 years is dead :(

I let my Dad drive it whenever he likes, though he doesn't very often. I'm able to use his in return.

Thats it, though.

I've always let my mates & family drive my motors & vice-versa.

You sound like you have a different agreement with your old-man as he sorted an MOT & a couple of tyres out, albeit a cack make! I'd be getting some Eagle F1s sorted for the rear & give a polite reminder to reiterate that its your pride & joy & to be a touch more careful.

Same here.

Funny, he used to borrow my e38 all the time, but tends not to want my scabby e36..... :D

I let my dad drive my car, and I'd let my mum drive probably, but she wouldn't want to. I'd also let my gf drive if she was insured and she let me give her a little demo/training session first :p

Anyone that wants to can drive mine. You don't get many takers for a Fiat Seicento though :o One of my friends does borrow her on occasion since his Audi is pretty much always broken and in the shop.

As for others lending me a car - my mate lets me drive his Bentley, which is jolly nice of him :D

When I had my 172 Cup I felt like a Pimp the number of times it was leant out for a bit of fun! I even had her being abused by a couple of mates on a trackday at Donington Park, dirty girl! :)

I have let my mates drive my car, even one without a license on a parking lot so he could get some practice before starting with his lessons. But only after asking and them convincing me they will drive safely in it.

My dad can take it without asking, because I can take either of his without asking and have the spare keys on my key chain, and he has mine...

any of my mates who have DOC can have a go. they all have experience in similar cars, and it's worth buttons, so i dont get precious.

I let my dad drive mine and I get to drive his but neither of us let mum drive either:p I let my sister drive mine but after she let my nephew eat chocolates in the back and have a small scrape i've kept it limited to myself and dad now.

ill be around later to loan it from you then :p send details in trust! :D

It's just a car so yes, anyone can drive it if they like. When I had the A6 I restricted that to people with fully comp insurance as it was financed and I couldn't afford to replace it if it ended up in a ditch. Aside from that I've never owned a car I couldn't afford to buy 2 of (or 10 of in some cases :p) so there's not much sense in being a car scrooge.

My partner, but we're the only two insured.

And I don't like being in the passenger seat when she's driving at all, she seems to think that when you floor it at low revs and it does nothing, the way to go is to keep it pressed until it comes on boost and takes a mm off both the front tyres. :/
