600 quid ex.vat

but then u dont get the full power if its in xfire right ?
8x on PCI-E 2.0 is pretty much as fast as 16x PCI-E 1.0, so there is no drop is speed/performance for graphic card crossfiring in 8x/8x.

The motherboard in Brian8bit's build is a the cheapest AM3 motherboard that's capable of proper Crossfire, but it has an older chipset, and does not have USB3.0 or SATA 6Gb/s like the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX (£109.99) I quoted. You can save £20 with his board if you don't mind missing out a newer chipset, USB3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s.

thers no point on saving 20 quid on little little things cause at the end of the day u buy new pcs after a few years if u wanna save a quick buk and then u end up have to upgrade in a few months i dont see the point

My point exactly :D I would rather have the extra features than saving £20 too. But it's your money, so I thought I should let you know the options available and let you decide for yourself.

I agree, it's far better to save £20 and pay for some English lessons.

Have you even look the the builds at #14? They have faster graphic card, faster CPU, faster memory and better motherboards at around the £700 mark. Everyone should get at least a 5770 1GB as graphic card except for those that can only afford £400ish for building a rig.

Those are some great memory at very reasonable price! Must be newly added...but with only 2 left in stock, don't think they will be around for long.

Phenom II X4 Crossfire ready build, with USB3.0 and 6Gb/s SATA motherboard:
phenomiix4955.jpg

kinda like this

I should mention that the board is only x16, x4 in xfire, but if you're willing to chuck a tiny bit more cash (about £50) into it you could jump to a x8 x8 board to give room for xfiring another 5850 in the future.

EDIT: oh yeah, bung in that low latency memory kit linked above to save £10 and get better memory :)

PS: it's more fun OCing yourself because you get to learn how it all works, and you get the sense of achievement that comes from getting loads of free performance :D

Any views on this set up guys?
Where do I start...
1. A Asus 5850 that's most likely never gonna be back in stock again
2. A OEM i5 750 CPU that is seriously overpriced (retail i5 750 uses to only sell at around £150). i5 750 4.0GHz woulld offer higher frame rate than Phenom II X4 4.0GHz in games that are not optimised for Quad (i.e. Crysis) if the graphic card is at 5870's level or higher. For games like that are well-optimised for Quad (i.e. Battlefield Bad Company 2), i5 [email protected] would not offer higher frame rate than Phenom II [email protected] for graphic cards on the level of 5970 or CF5850 or below.
3. A motherobard that can't crossfire, no USB3.0, no 6Gb/s SATA and socket 1156 is pretty much at a deadend with no more CPU coming out for it in the future. Socket AM3 still has new CPUs coming so upgradability is better.
4. Antec 300 only has top and rear fan comes with it, the optional 2 front and 1 side panel 120mm fans need to be bought separately
5. Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro Rev.2 cooler is a decent cooler for the price, but Titan Fenrir V2 is a more effective cooler.
