Do you realise how barmy that sounds? You'd rather a party was representative of the few, not the many?

Union politics aren't representative of the many, especially when the default for political funding is opt in and hidden...

well unless we have a coalition, 2/3 of the people won't have wanted the party in power.

So does anyone else have a rather not bad looking lass running in their area?

"Daisy Benson" is our lib dem effort, and I must say she isnt that bad... well on the eyes anyway.

Aye not bad I guess!

That is a tired topic. Some unions do the above, some do not. Do not misrepresent the issue as stating it as a universal occurence.

Come off it Dolph, dont split hairs. If you join a union, your political ideals are best served by the Labour Party.

well tbh I am in a union and I really don't think they should automatically fund a political part and I think a lot of the more active unionists are too militant, however, I think unions with a sensible approach can be very helpful.

I do think party funding needs to be controlled generally so that we get a fair fight.

Labour Party MP Shahid Malik has predicted the total Islamification of Britain and a Muslim prime minister, “Allah willing”, within the next thirty years.
Referring to Muslim members of the British parliament, himself included, Mr Malik went on to say that: “In 1997 we got our first Muslim MP. In 2001 we had two Muslim MPs. In 2005 we had four Muslim MPs. In ša Allah, in 2009 (or) 2010 we’ll have eight or ten Muslim MPs. In 2014 we’ll have 16 Muslim MPs. At this rate the whole parliament will be Muslim.”

Mr Malik then realised that he had let the cat out of the bag by being too honest, and in an embarrassed tone, he backtracked slightly, saying that was not his intention “in case any members of the press are present.”

The crowd showed no signs of reacting to his remark, and, filled with confidence, he then resumed an explanation of how Britain is to be totally Islamified.

“I am confident, as Britain’s first Muslim minister, that, in ša Allah, in the next thirty years or so, we’ll see a prime minister who happens to share my faith,” Mr Malik said, in reference to the growing Third World population and immigration figures.

Malik himself had to resign due to his part in the MPs’ expenses scandal :D

On February 27, 2010 British environment minister Jim Fitzpatrick claimed to the Sunday Telegraph that the group has infiltrated the Labour Party, with the intent of turning Britain and later Europe into Islamic states with Sharia, saying “They are acting almost as an entryist organisation, placing people within the political parties, recruiting members to those political parties, trying to get individuals selected and elected so they can exercise political influence and power, whether it’s at local government level or national level.” He added "They are completely at odds with Labour’s programme, with our support for secularism.”

LIBDEMS are at it as well

The Liberal Democrats at both national and local level have adopted an aggressive anti-Israel stance. They choose to communicate this message particularly in areas with large Muslim populations – suggesting that their anti-Israel stance is motivated by a desire to win Muslim votes.

During Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s effort to stop rocket attacks from Hamas in Gaza, Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg came right out and said that “we must stop arming Israel” and even called for trade sanctions against Israel. This was echoed by the Lib Dems’ MP from Rochdale who branded Israeli actions a “massacre” and said to a rally in Trafalgar Square: “I am here on behalf of Nick Clegg to show solidarity for the people of Palestine….I want to stop the massacre [by Israel]”.

At a local level, the Lib Dems have ruthlessly targeted voters in Muslim areas with an anti-Israel message to whip up hatred against Israel and garner votes. Here is an example of a leaflet they used in an area of Redbridge LINKwith a large Muslim community – again calling for Israel to be disarmed and showing a photo of a dead child in Gaza. A similar Lib Dem leaflet was aimed at the Muslim community in the Kings Cross area of the Borough of Camden. Indeed, the Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate there, Jo Shaw, has made great play of her opposition to Israel, as shown by her website. The website post is totally unashamed about the fact the Lib Dems used the issue to recruit new Muslim members, saying: “The meeting was to welcome new Lib Dem members from Camden’s Bangladeshi community, who were heartened by Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg being the only mainstream party leader to call for a halt to arm sales to Israel”.

make sure you know who your voting for and what they want to do to this country!

DO YOU WANT A MUSLIM PM ?

Unite do it, and they dwarf all other individual donators to any political party.

We need political funding reform and further reform of the union movement.

Those are your thoughts and I respect them. However you must realise that trade unions founded the Labour Party so this is why it receives funding in this way. Like any important demographic, they need to maintain a stake in a political party. There would be no sense in lobbying other parties with union funds as their interests are mutually exclusive to the major stakeholders (ie. corporations, wealthy individuals) in other parties such as the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

it's not which is probably one of the reasons we are where we are, up the creak with out a paddle.

But, here's to another 5 years hey.:(

We've been at this same (massively indebted economy and damaged society) three times in the last 60 years... The problem that causes it is not the electoral system, but one of the parties within it.
