***Official Halo Reach Beta Thread***

I've come up with a winning strategy. Get the grenade launcher and run around firing it point blank in peoples faces :D Just close enough that you can't miss, but far away enough that it doesn't blow you the **** up as well.

Hide next to a health pack with a hammer was mine ;)

I'm starting to get used to the new BR Its even better than the pistol (which pwns)

I could never force myself in to liking the Halo 3 multiplayer as I normally prefer shooters such a MW2 and BFBC2, but Im quite enjoying this. The only thing spoiling it for me, is the amount of damage you need to inflict in killing someone. Using the battle rifle from a distance takes a lot of shots, by then one of my team mates has stolen my kill.

Im still undecided. I want to like it, I really do, but its like Gears Of War, takes a full clip to kill someone.

Im exactly the same as you, it really ruined gears for me though I dont find the halo series as bad. I just find it tones down the need for accuracy but I used to play competitive CS so quick killing is my thing whereas im sure the opposite is desired by others

The one shot guns are awesome when used right, and the jetpacks are a great laugh. I really think its more of a team game than the other halos now, and will be looking to play with people on comms more often.

Not sure I have noticed the Frags being Over powered.

In terms of clip size and ammo counts, this is how Halo rewards accuracy, if you use any gun that can perform a head shot then x shots to the body + 1 to the head will put down an enemy way faster than x+y shots to the body. A clip is more than sufficient to get a kill with a BR, I think the pistol its doable as well but the clip size in the pistol has obviously been limited so that it is your side arm, not your main weapon. (i.e. you run out of ammo in a firefight with your AR so you swap to pistol to finish him off with a headshot)

I had a funny kill last night, I was in a fight I lined up a sticky for the guy who was shooting me whilst running backwards and threw it, just as I released another enemy ran in front of me (obviously trying to assassinate me but I moved backwards) and my grenade hit him square on the side of the head, I ran off lmao.

Had a few more games last night, enjoyable. Some thoughts.

  • Really dislike Stockpile, its just so hard to play online with people you don't know. You really need team work for it to go well but its impossible when your the only one with a mic!
  • SWAT / Team SWAT is AWESOME. I wish I could just play this all day.
  • Swordbase is a rubbish map. I really hope the two other maps they unlock are good at being slayer maps rather than purely objective based.
  • Sprint isn't fast enough to be useful.
  • Armor lock is rubbish, whenever people do it on me I just wait and throw a grenade just before them come out of it. Easy kill.
  • Invisibility feels too good to me, get caught out by it a LOT.
  • Jet pack is great, but doesn't feel quite right. Its hard to just float along going forwards a bit, the power curve of it seems all wrong.
  • The fall damage is increased, and quite annoying.
  • The melee is a lot weaker :(, add this to the weakened AR and your default fight of blast with AR then melee just doesn't work. Considering its the default loadout Its pretty annoying.

lol just goes to show, I disagree with almost everything you say Chris1712 :p apart from Swordbase being rubbish and Sprint needs to be a little faster (although it is a fine line to it becoming overpowered, turn it up too much and it would be insane on smaller/medium size maps). ;)

1) I agree its only reasonable as a team game, I dont find it that bad a game atm. Novel is probably how I'd describe it.
2) Sprint is fine as it is imo. (obviously I haven't tried it faster or slower but it seems ok_
3) not figured out how best to employ this, but I tend to agree it leaves you exposed. might be useful with greater team work or in objective games :dunno: i.e. let your team know your in trouble and punch the ground, whilst your team mop up for you.
4) Invisibility comes with its own drawbacks i.e. your hearing is impaired and your radar is buggered (although this impacts everyone around you), also its not that hard to see invisible players if you keep your wits about you.
5) If you could just fly up in the air and have great visability of the entire map and be able to steadily shoot do you not think it would be a tad bit over powered? Jetpack should mainly be used for getting from point a to be really quickly and to get to high up ledges for overwatch/sniping.
6) Yes but if it wasn't there then the jetpack users would just hang about up in the air until their fuel ran out, there needs to be some risk.
7) TBH Melee was too strong in H3 and led to too many double deaths, the default lockout has the pistol in it so you should not be running at your enemy firing away and then trying to punch him, you should be throwing grenades running backwards / circle strifing &trying to knock down his shield and head shotting him.

On objective games at least.

Jetpack should mainly be used for getting from point a to be really quickly and to get to high up ledges for overwatch/sniping.Good point on the fall damage. But you've kind of echo'd my point on the Jet Pack, perhaps I should explain. I feel its got too much up and not enough forward :p. Basically, you get a huge surge for the first second or so when you gain a lot of height, which quickly slows down. So you get your burst to gain a lot of height, but then you can't use short bursts to actually move across the map very far. I just feel some more distance/less height would be better, for covering ground not having massive jump fights.

I guess so, its just a change from the previous games.

We played a few "Pro" games last night and then went back to a normal slayer game and all of us said "Aww I miss my sprint, should have chosen that one" But then I guess none of us did.

I think its very useful for gaining early map/weapon control, and its so useful for getting out of a fight. Turn and run, you get round a corner and your safe. Invisible you still have to get round the corner to be safe, but your going to take more shots before you get there, jetpack you need to get over a wall to be safe, punching the ground your safe when your buddies come.

So I think like everything sprinting has its place and if you use it well it will serve you well.

Not tried sprinting in objective games but I assume you can sprint with the flag :dunno: One to try I guess.

I much prefer playing as an Elite instead of a Spartan (I never thought I would ever hear myself say that :p) The roll is just so damn useful, so no doubt they will make it crap before launch :(

Kreeeee,

Just in case you are reading this from where-ever you are currently (Ireland?)
We have found a suitable replacement for you on the team.
Cadman has demonstrated a natural and near prodigious talent for throwing grenades at me just as I'm going into or coming out of combat. He has so far killed me more times then the enemy combined. Frankly he puts your efforts in Halo3 to shame.
You are therefore dropped to the bench and until you demonstrate a marked improvement in both training, in reserves matches/cup games... Hang on your not going to understand the football references are you, you big gay.

Anyway hurry up and return, the enemy needs your support :D
