With reprocessing breeder reactors could sustain current power output for about 30,000 years, and that's before you look at other fissile materials like thorium, 3x as abundant as uranium, easier to mine and huge amounts in politically stable areas (Australia and India have the biggest deposits). Nuclear fission still has a lot to give, and with modern reactors there are very few safety concerns nearly everything that could go wrong would just end up with the nuclear pile going out and power being lost.

But do bear in mind that FBRs are not currently financially viable, heck there have only ever been two that have had a positive energy output, and one of them is closed and the other due to soon.

I do agree that nuclear is needed though, just need to get past the NIMBYism.

Sent my postal vote last week. Voted Lib Dems in Broxtowe which is apparently marginal according to the paper today although it hasn't been the case previously.

Realistically, I expect conservatives to take the seat if Labour don't hold it but I'm treating my vote as a vote of confidence which can hopefully be carried forward to future elections and may see the Liberals gaining a stronger foothold in years to come.

The live vid is all calm now :(.

shame first question, after his speech about how every vote counts as
"if every vote counts why is our local candiate saying a conservative vote is a wasted vote"
and the second was about lib dem MPs milking expenses, and nick came close to telling the questioner to shut up. which made me lol

A reminder exactly why we have no choice but to start cutting spending immediately... Labour has broken this country, for the 3rd time in 60 years.

I'll be voting conservative.

I'm not exactly backing labour, but surely that's a testament to how well the economy has been run under a labour government? In that they've been able to manage a deficit with very little loss in standard of living for it's citizens.

We are not Greece - we're in a totally different situation to them. One of the reasons we are able to have a similar size deficit to Greece while maintaining a AAA credit rating is Brown's sound-ish fiscal policy during the boom years. So when we needed to borrow for a fiscal stimulus, we were able to do so without issue. Naturally this can't go on, and it's time to start cutting the deficit as every significant political party agrees.
