The Pacific - Anyone else a little disappointed?

So I have been watching the new HBO miniseries, The Pacific. I couldn't wait for this to start as I absolutely loved The Band of Brothers. However, after 6 episodes it doesn't feel like it has gotten anywhere.

By this point in BoB you knew all the characters really well and each of the episodes were engaging and exciting.

The Pacific so far hasn't really drawn me in. There are some fantastic action sequences and a few good bits of drama, but it feels like it has been cobbled together at the last minute. The only person I feel anything towards is Leckie, simply because he is the only guy they seem to focus on in most episodes. Worse still, every episode seems to end just as it gets interesting or exciting.

Am I the only one who feels like this?

I'm not as impressed as I wanted to be but I will be reserving full judgement until I watch the whole series.

I plan to watch the next 4 episodes, but I am not expecting any great turnaround. It feels like they got a 10-hour long movie and just sliced it up accordingly, regardless of pacing.

Perhaps it would be best to watch the whole lot in a single sitting!

Might have to watch Band of Brothers again just to get this rubbish out of my mind

Yes I am disappointed.

The characters and pace of the story are just wrong. The show feels very rushed in places where time is needed to develop characters, but stretched out in other parts which seem trivial.

The interviews with the surviving soldiers at the start of each episode doesn't have the impact that it should have. I put it down to pace of the show and terrible character building.

I find it hard to believe that Spielberg has put his name on this drawn out dull watch.

Yeah its certainly no where near Band of Brothers yet, but have a feeling it will pickup in the last few episodes. :)

Very dissappointed. Put it this way, I get more enjoyment watching that PENCIL during the superb intro then watching the actual program. I am on the latest episodes so far and I only know one character's name.

The show keeps fast forwarding from event to event at such a stupid pace that any sense of immersion, or character development is effectively destroyed. This just get worse as the show progresses it seems.

It isn't even in the same league as BoB.

Spielberg seems to love portraying weedy ginger Jewish kids as the incredible heroes.

Not a huge fan of The Pacific. However, some of the set pieces are eminently watchable.

I'm not disappointed with it although I don't relate to it as much as Band of Brothers (Europe vs Pacific). I'm also re-watching BoB at the same time, and although you get to know more characters in it, it's surprising that the action is not as intense as I remembered it to be - 5 mins here, 5 mins there. There are also a lot 60 second scenes which could be classed as charater building or scene setting, but just seem like they are padding the epidoses out.
Pacific is very good, BoB is superb.

I am enjoying it, but am still a bit disappointed, as has been said Band of Brothers was immense and so far The Pacific doesn't seem to be quite at the same level.

I've been recording this and was really looking forward to it until I read this thread, is it really that bad?

As you have it recorded anyway, the best thing you could do is watch it and decide for yourself. Its not as good as BoB, but given that BoB is the best tv show I've ever seen thats not massively surprising.

I think a lot of peoples expectations havent been met because its a different style to BoB.

Watch it anyway, dont get put off by the early episodes and decide for yourself. Is it really that bad? IMO, no..its not that bad by a long way. Its a £5 million UK lotto win when compared to the £60 million euromillions win that was BoB, but hey...its still £5 million :)
