600 to spend.I have a pc now where the only things worth saving are a q6600 and some ocz gold ddr2.

I need:Case,PSU,cpu,GPU(5770?)cooler,hard drive,dvd drive,uperating system
and i also need a half decent mouse and a keyboard.
Dont mind going over budget if you need to.

It will be used on two 24" monitors for a bit of gaming(on one monitor) and ripping dvds

Thanks lads :)

You may as well sell your current pc with the CPU and ram in it. Or sell it all separately. Either way you won't notice any real difference in performance unless you upgrade these as well.

Bit over budget but then you said you didn't mind and you can sell the Q6600 + RAM.

You sure you can't overclock your Q6600 a bit? What motherboard you using?

For games that are not optimised for Quad (i.e. Crysis), sure the Q6600 would bottleneck cards like 5870 by a little even if it was overclocked to 3.7GHz, but if you are playing games that are optimised for Quad (i.e. Battlefield Bad Company 2), a Q6600 with a moderate overclock with all four cores used effectively it would not bottleneck a 5870.

In my opinion, if you are only using a 5770, then a Q6600 (with a moderate overclock) would not bottleneck it, even for games that are not optimised for Quad.

If I were you, I would try to overclock the Q6600 to around 3.2GHz or something. Hell, even my crap nforce board manage to overclock to 3.15GHz...unless you board is even crapper than mine, I don't see why you can't overclock to at least 3.0GHz.

And after overclocked the Q6600, just use the money for grabbing a 5850 or something.
