so i saw someone today eating a packet of sweets on a public bus abd the driver shouted at them saying it is illegal to eat on a public bus and there was a possible fine of up to 2000 pounds... i am not joking! is there any such law? haha

Lol no... I used to see a fat slob in a mobility scooter scoffing on a jumbo and chips all the time when I was unfortunate enough to have to use the bus.

Most buses have no food or drink signs, but sweets? As for legality I suppose the bus companies can actually decide what is allowed on their buses.

You're allowed to eat on the busses round here as long as it's not hot/ smelly food.

I've gotten a bus back from the pub and eaten a footlong sub before. And a mixed kebab i've eaten on a bus before. Buses are good places to eat when you're drunk :D

I’ve not seen any no eating signs on the buses around here. The only time you see people eating is late in the evening.

Haha... at the end of the journey cos i get off at the end of the route..its more of a coach but... I asked, how much would i be fined for say, a pack of skittles..

He said... about £100

I said... So who would be fining me then...

Him... (pause)...... The health and safety people...

I laughed... and said... so what is the danger to health and safety then?

Him.... (pause).... Well, think logically.. if you were eating a banana, then you might drop the skin and somebody might slip on it...

HAHAHAHA....

he was completely serious too!

He said... it is in our council booklet everyone gets... that is rubbish! ha there isnt even a booklet! and this is a private bus company who run a public service! ...

Long story short.. he is hilariously ignorant!

Sounds like the bus driver was talking rubbish - but lets face it - he hardly is likely to have a law degree.

It may be against the policy of bus company to eat on a bus - but illegal? Get out.

Isn't it up to the bus company to decide?

Exactly! It is! But there are no signs or as far as i know there are no bus company rules.. This driver only ever says it is against the law or councilo rules or health and safety enforcement or whatever but never the bus company rules... probably because he doesnt want to get sacked for lieing!

i was getting on the bus with my 5year old son the other day and he had a lemon drink that comes in a transparent plastic cup with a lid that has a hole for the straw to go in the bus driver said "you cant get on with that" so i had to chuck a drink i just bought for him in the bin :(

i thought to my self if it were a bunch of 16-20 year olds or someone who looked like they would tell him to **** off then he would just have let them on with the drink incase they started any trouble.

pathetic

I was on a bus recently and surprisingly :p the bus driver didn't object to the group of 5 about 20 year old guys cracking open a beer at 7.30 in the morning on thier way to work.
