blue screen of death

hi,

I got ahold ov a second hand toshiba tecra a3 laptop for my grandad n decided to install windows xp and boost the ram. I was just adding programs needed and updating drivers when i got my first blue screen stating "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your system" etc

I have tried removing the new ram i bought and reinstalling the o/s a multitude of times but at some point the bluescreen appears to ruin my day. Also, i have been using the version of windows on my own laptop for years and for a while on my main system too so dont think it is a problem with that !

The error code of the last screen is...

***stop 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x896802C8, 0x8968043C, 0x805FB07E)

does anyone have any idea what it is that the code is telling me, or any ideas how i can sort the problem out ????

Start by downloading and running a Memtest boot disk to check for faulty RAM.
That would be my first port of call.

And then download and run the drive diagnostic from your hd manufacturer.
