revising past paper for GCSE RS short course and this question has popped up, and I am curious to people's views to this, I think that he doesn't, as I do not believe in him, and also that I think that Christians try to prevent it :)

Discuss. :)

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

So, fear, not God. Done!

God is percieved as the entity which believers think exists. Since belief of God can analogue to a persons subconsciencnous, then it may be valid to ask "do Humans cause suffering?". In which case, yes, they do.

lmao they still teach religion at school?

As for the answer, just say all living things cause suffering, because if there was no living things there would be no suffering.

Really depends on agle you take.
No because he doesn't exist
yes due to old testament
yes in cathloism
no in other religions due to free will and not being able to interfere. Basically since the end of old testament he has left the world to nature and will only interfer again at the 2nd coming.

Then You have all the other religions and ideas.

GCSE RS is easy when you're an atheist...

lol, not really :( as for our spec you need to know the christian's view to everything  which I think is pointless -_-

lmao they still teach religion at school?

Tell me about it :)

What we need is a Christians view, as they believe in God!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT

That statement some what contradicts itself.

Anyway, all you need for RE in school is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot

yes, it does lol i'm revising too much ;) and will read into that as it seems very useful and have heard of Bertrand Russell :)

In layman's terms (and what I believe):

God doesn't cause suffering, however he will let some people experience suffering, or the suffering of others in order to strengthen their faith. He will only do this to people if either a) there is no other way to reach them and b) he knows that it will work.

However, God does not control the deaths of individuals (for example if you want to commit suicide you can) as it says in the Bible that death is the last enemy to be defeated. God also doesn't enjoy allowing people to suffer (similar to if you were to see your child hurt themselves but had warned them not to do something earlier and they hadn't listened to you).

Obviously these are my beliefs, and I think sum up the question that you are asking. If you're wanting help for a specific paper question I could ask my dad and find out other views on the subject.

he drowned thousands of people, he murdered tens/hundreds of thousands of innocent children in Egypt, nuked 2 cities, tortured a man and murdered his family for the hell of it.

then depending on which sect of Christianity you follow he tortures billions of people for all time.

Christians try to prevent it :)

Unless you happen to live in africa.

RE was an optional subject for year 10 in my school. 2 people opted for it so they could not go through with it as they needed at least 10 for a class. :D

Here's your answer, maybe...

A dog owner owns two dogs. He treats them well for a time, but they leave him and run off into the wild lands beyond his house.

They soon find that living without their owner is a lot more difficult. They keep getting attacked by other feral dogs, they get sick and ill and there is no one to take them to the vet and fix them up. They are hungry a lot of the time too.

Is it the former owners fault that they're in a bad way?

You do realise RE doesn't teach that god is real?

and it doesn't try to promote Christianity or any other religion either...

well considering all the good schools are CofE or catholic I think christianity does get rammed down kids throats in schools a bit too much
