I WILL NEVER BUY A EA GAME AGAIN, check this info out. EA ARE D*(KS

Looks like EA has found another way to screw over the consumer. If you download and burn games, it looks like if you care to play them online, you will need to pay $10/game. It’s sad since for those of us in the U.S. can get games on craigslist at a way cheaper price than if you go to GameStop or any other game store and purchase them used. I have 2 words for you EA……..BITE ME!

ALL THEY ARE AFTER IS MONEY MONEY MONEY.

Starting with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the publisher will introduce a new Online Pass, a one-time registration code included with each brand new copy of the game. The code allows players to access “online services, features and bonus content.”

Those who purchase the game used can buy an Online Pass for $10 or sign up for a free 7-day trial. The pass will be implemented for NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, NBA 11, FIFA 11, and EA Sports MMA as well. The pass offers different features for each title, however, players will not have access to basic multiplayer features if purchased used.

“You will be unable to play multiplayer online game modes or use your downloaded content in online game modes,” EA says. Online leagues, dynasty and franchise modes are also only available with the Online Pass. The break down for each title can be seen on the publisher’s official website.

Update:

it looks like this will shatter the 2nd hand community that buy EA games.
if you buy it and the original pass key was used you will need to pay EA money for a new key.

Perfectly fair.

This is something I really can't get riled up about I'm afraid. If you want to play online, giving the devs some form of cash seems fair.

Remember, if you buy it new this doesn't affect you in any way. You also get 7 free days if you rent the game.

How can you say that ?

if the game is bought new and someone sells it they already have the right for all functionalty
so selling it on should let the person buying it also have full functionatly otherwize

people that buy games will have to reduce there sales by £10 so that the game they are actually selling fully works online lol.

It also helps them recover some money from pirates so I'm not totally against this, it could make all the difference for smaller developers between losing a million sales through piracy and getting nothing to at least getting some revenue.

Wasn't this already done in the recent PSP SOCOM game and one of the previous PES games on the PS3?

Never buy used games anyway so doesnt bother me,Isnt really a surprise either devs never liked the used market cant blame them either as they get no profit from it and as a business it is all they want

Slightly dissapointing news but other then Fifa i dont normally get EA games (that im aware are EA anyway), my main concern is that other devs will follow and it will destroy the second hand market which i fear will kill resale value of games for those who dont like to keep hold of them

It's because of pirate games simply. Companies have been flirting with ideas how to help stop it. Like gears of war 2 code. I'm sure they would use that method all the time with online activation and then allowing you to download a portion of the missing game but not everyone has access to the net or plays connected to the net.

Myself personally I rent most games and rarely play online so I couldn't care less. Most games I play can be done with the 7 day trial code and if I wanted to play for longer the game would be a keeper anyway. It's likely I would buy the game complete it playing any of the online stuff with the trial code and then sell the game with the code intact.

It won't destroy the 2nd hand market at all because the lack of code will drive the game price down.

Its good news for pirates though - download the SP for free and pay £10 for the MP versus either not playing the MP or buying a full copy.:D

How is it good news when it cost them £10 to play something they was getting for free. Not only that they could still get banned after having paid for content that would be tied to that console. So they would then have to buy another console and pay the £10 again.

dont you download games from places ? that you buy them if you sell them your screwed now.

Not for consoles i don't, that's called piracy. If you download it from a digital distributor you can't sell it on anyway.

The only people i can see this stinging are pirates (mainly) and the second hand market (partially). Stuff like this has been happening for a while now, Bad Company 2 had the extra maps bundled, Gears had maps bundled too, Dragon Age had Shale yet they all seem to be selling fine on the second hand market.

If you download and burn games, it looks like if you care to play them online

So you're outraged that you can't pirate games for free now? I have no sympathy.

Sounds like a good idea to me to be honest.
If it wipes out a good portion of pirates then I'll be more than happy.
