Has anybody else experienced this strange phenomenon? I have an additional year of no claims bonus and The AA, broking a Fortis underwritten product are unable to reduce my premium. In fact they have quoted me £488 for a policy that I paid ££376 for last year!

Having searched on confused, nowhere is offering me a cheaper policy than I got last year.

I work in the insurance industry and I know that our claims to premium ratio is about 75%, it just seems strange that my insurer wants to up my premium almost 30% with additional experience and no claims.

Mine went down as well, though they sent a renewal for £470, new customer quote through their website said £380! To their credit when I pointed this out they dropped they quote immediately

Mines went up £200 pounds, i am 28, got 2 years NCB spent a month trying every company you can think of and nowhere was cheaper, some companies even refused to quote me. i can only say one thing when it is time to renew your car insurance just BEND OVER!!!

Mine was going down untill i bumped into someone at lights a few years back :D

It went up a few quid and now its back to normal.

Just learn to haggle and bullpoo them saying you can get better elsewhere... they usually cut some off, certainly enough to make it the same as last year ive found.

I have noticed that they sneakily remove things come renewal time so you see the same price and just renew only to find they removed something like DoC or Protected no claims. Make sure you read your whole policy and confirm what you are getting.

Mine, without fail since i started to insure a car at age 18, has gone up with my current insurer via their renewal quote.

Really, is there no watchdog for these things? How is it right that when with Elephant (name and shame), they can quote me £900 for a Citroen Xantia TPFT renewal, then when i call up, cancel, then call straight back get a quote of £700 from the same company for slightly better cover (TPFT but with windscreen cover), how is that even remotely right??

Consequently I am yet to stick with a single insurer for more than 1 year so far. For example, last time, everyone was quoting circa £700 as i had just changed to a newer more powerful car, except Direct Line, who wanted £530 fully comp (£700 TPFT...).

Insurance is genuinely a total minefield and *really* needs a better more powerful watchdog, especially seeing as its a legal requirement to have insurance if you have a motorised vehicle... Our telephone lines and utilities are well monitored, why on Earth isn't insurance.. they seem to be almost allowed to do what they want!

I think it depends on which part of the month you get a quote.

I was looking at bike insurance end of last month and best quote came in at £280 yet I did the same quote with the same details beginning if this month and it had gone upto £470

my insurance has gone up drastically even if i get quotes with my NCB in tact, directline were ~1200 last year, at 21 with 3 years NCB, now at 22 with 4 years it's £2k :s really bizarre.

mine is not due untill the end of the year, although the quotes i've had have been knocking around £1400 of my current price. Some have kept the price around the same while aviva have managed to knock £1600+ off the current cost.
my boat insurance has doubled though.

Got my renewal quote and mine went up from £530 to £7** then i told them about my change of address and it went up another £150

Did a lot of shopping around and got it down to £670 9 years n/c and that was through a comany called 'A plan'
