Ive had my 5870 for a little while now and sometimes while playing modern warefare 2 or bad company 2 i get a grey screen with lines going through it?

Is this the grey screen of death everyone is talking about? It doesnt crash my pc or anything, the game resumes after about 3 seconds of this screen appearing its very strange.

Im using the catalyst 10.4 driver.

i have this problem with my 5870. usually when playing burnout paradise. usually rund fine for 10 mins or so then starts to crap out (and this is at stock clocks)

to get around it i either drop my core and mem clocks or just up the core clock when running in 2d (so its closer to the 3d base clock)

this has kinda solved it but i still feel a bit twitchy with it lol. (really wanted to clock the nuts off it ;-)

I'm having the same problem, runs for about 20mins then starts to freeze for a couple of seconds, then it speedily catches up with itself, very strange. When I see the grey screen with vertical lines it crashes and I generally have to reset my system, very frustrating.

Looks like my card will be going back.

It's an XFX 5870 xxx version.

hmm, this was fixed since the 10.1 hotfix, so it *shouldnt* be happening to any of you.

You wouldnt all be OC'ing the card?

My card is factory overclocked 900/1250, not overclocked above that, just running standard. Only had the card since last week but can't seem to get any further than 20 mins into a game b4 I get the grey screen, it starts to freeze way before then though. I've reverted back to my trusty HD 4870 1GB. Had no choice really.

Happens stock speed or overclocked.

It doesnt crash my system but the grey screen with the lines flashes up for a few seconds then game go's back to normal.

I'm hoping i dont need to rma my card :(

A lot of people including myself had issues with RAM and grey screens which at first I thought was my 5850...it wasnt the cards fault, so if you are pushing your ram, or can try slowing it down a bit, in some cases (not all by any means) that ll help.

Is it quite a white grey? With black vertical lines?

If so Ive had this just while using desktop, surfing net/etc. But only once so far.

I thought it might be cus I was using an untested overclock on the card, but thinking about it, those dont get used when your just on the internet.

It knocked out aero in the process, took a few minutes to re-enable itself too.

Thing is, my system is 10 hrs Prime Blend stable

i have had issues with the 10.4 release driver also.

i have gone back to the 10.4 preview driver and all is fine.
