Best Job You've Ever Had?

Travelling around the world working on superyachts in luxury destinations. Partying with yacht crews, free drink, food, pretty girls everywhere. Perfect for when you're in your early 20s and single.

Rubbish for a regular lifestyle, a social life back at home. Your work became your social life, which wasn't bad considering I got to spend my weekends partying in the Med and in the States and be paid for it.

However, never again. Taking 30-40+ flights a year is soul destroying. It was fun, I loved it, saw many sights, experienced many interesting things, met lots of cool people, met lots of exciting women, learnt a lot about the world! However, the work was often tedious, long and frustrating (IT & Telecoms), you had to deal with contractors from all around the world, with yachties that are so far up their own arses they've forgotten the reality of what the real world is about, primadonnas basically! I missed being at home, I missed having my own life.

Test Engineer down in Winchester, was my first job and really such a relaxed atmosphere with some great colleagues.

Mine is my current job.

Working in a warehouse ( i know ). I work with 3 VERY close friends, 1 is the manager and another 1 is the Assistant manager. In the summer there is little work to be done, and getting over £1k a month while living with parents is a huge bonus too!

When I was younger I worked at Wembley Stadium and Arena and this was definately the best job. I got to see all the gigs and matches, met all the celebs as I ran their private bars, served the Queen, Princess Diana and Prince Charles and had a brilliant time.

That's low man, Just because Nix can't have kids you have to put the boot in :(

Are you sure the problem isn't your end?;)

Yeps Oil & Gas is a great industry to work in, Project Engineer at Risktec, its a fantastic job, a spot on company and the pay and travel ops + things you get to see are great :)

Rub it in why don't you... :(

At the moment I can't even get a job as a mudlogger.:(

As for jobs, I guess working in a seismic company comes close. Only 6 weeks however and I can see it getting a bit boring, however world travel, free food and accommodation and as many desert safaris as you can stomach...

Otherwise closer to home, fruit picking, repetative and could be a bit of a pain in the back (bending down all the time) but I did it almost every summer from 13-17 and it was brilliant. Didn't work when it rained so it involved around £10 an hour standing in the sun for 4ish hours a day. :D

Had to be when I was working in Game part time. It was quite a small and quiet shop so most of the time was spent talking to the regulars about games/consoles or playing the consoles.

When I was 16 I worked at a waterpark for a summer, fun times.

IT Tech for BBC News & Current Affairs... It was long hours & shift work, but the social element and the BBC bar made up for it :D

I'd love to go back to that job!

How long ago, brother in law does/did something similar there :)

Believe it or not, working for Lehman Brothers when they went bankrupt. The atmosphere was something I had never experienced, and it was one of those situations where - at the time - was quite new and exciting, but you hope that it never happens again because the repercussions are really quite... errr.... bad.

gynecologist for me....oh wait sorry a job I have had oh ok :P.

mechanical Engineer

You really wouldn't want to be...

Spend all your day looking at manky old (probably disease ridden) vaginas. Couldn't think of anything worse! Is it really worth all that effort to see the very occasional hot womans?:p

Working at the Odeon.

i was 18, i was surrounded by people my age and slightly older, they were the first group of friends i'd made since leaving school and were a better group of friends than those i had at school. Everybody got on well. We basically owned the place and would usually be there till 2am or 3am long after doors had shut, eating pick'n'mix, watching movies before their release, riding our bikes down the stairs and around the screens etc. Colleagues who were out on the town on a friday or saturday would turn up when all the bars had shut and we'd all pile back to someones house nearby.

Great times.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome job (even if only for a couple of years)... Personally, I have not had any job at all yet :)

Best Job I ever had was Firewall engineer for BP (serious) Solid I.T job, There was never a uniform. GOOD, good money, lost it because I tended to enjoy my weekend too much, and crept into my 9-5. If I could go back. I'd would've taken the job more seriously.

*EDIT*

This thread is not healthty! Move on, you will either a) get a better job or b) learn a new skill and get to implement it (well, maybe)

And this advice comes from someone currently claiming JSA! (Oi! I used to be the 40% tax band, shut it)

I was in a band as a teenager and we did quite a few paid gigs. The money was good for a school kid and I loved the whole experience. We were affiliated with the local council so got the chance to represent them in Germany for a town twinning celebration - we actually got paid for a weeks holiday with 4 performances, it was awesome :).

Our Legacy GTB gets about 16-18mpg from a cold start and only slightly higher when it's cruising. They're not economical but I knew that before purchasing so it doesn't bother me too much. Well, not at all actually, especially when I'm driving it with a sense of determination and vigour ;)

Blow job.

But a close second would be working on the test team for a rather fancy Enterprise Storage Controller (Virtualiser). Big test stand, lots of kit, epic co-workers, some very challenging test phases, lots of fun.
