Counter strike source limited beta?

One thing I am going to hate is the stats .... I play on servers without stats for a reason ... to avoid the stat whores who don't give 2 flying ***ts about team objectives.

I play CS:S for fun with a server full of great ppl .... we switch sides to help the other team and whatnot. This just totally paints the wrong picture as there are no persistent unlocks like BF:BC2. There's also the issue of map balance when you get more than 12 players on a server, guaranteed to be the wrong side of the receiving end of a rape on maps like militia, aztec, dust & assault.

It might be premature but I've always found non-stats servers to be more fun and more teamwork oriented.

And yes I do play BF:BC2 but in that game you score more points for objectives than kills.

Pretty sure there are some people who'll disagree with me on this :p

Good! People need to stop taking games so seriously, it's pathetic.

I don't understand how such people even enjoy their games when they take them so seriously.

What is pathetic is all the people the just mess about on public when the game is really at its best in 5v5 situations with everyone on comms.

I really do not see the point of people playing public unless for warming up or having a laugh with mates.

If you have tried and failed at playing competitively, 5v5 mixs etc, it means your either A: got really shocking aim, B: you've got no game sense and don't listen.

Source has always been strategically worse than 1.6 for the reason that you cannot shoot through walls properly and you can go into console when you die to see how much damage you did to your opponent, which is honestly retarded in a competitive sense.

While this update really shows that source is for public whereas 1.6 competitively much better. The achievement is beating 5 other people over 2 halves of 15, why do you need steam to tell you, oh well done you got a 5man defuse when your smashing some team?

I guess this is a testing ground for ideas they might implement in the next cs to see how people react and if they work

Unfortunately it doesn't look that way.

This beta will run for a limited time, and once complete, the update will be deployed to all Counter-Strike: Source owners for free via Steam.

I didn't download it, partly because I knew it would be dreadful and partly because I cannot afford the 1.5GB download now that O2 is being so anal about our usage.

A couple of my clan-mates did download it and they immediately hated it.

As much as I have been waiting for an update for css to fix the problems listed here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10149694 I can't help but feel Valve should have just left it alone this time.

Im sure the hit reg is off with this beta, i've never had it with cs before but i had a case of the bendy bullets before. I'd ran around a corner (not wallbang capable) and then got killed... MW2 style :D

cl_interp is set to 0.1, and it doesn't allow you to set it any lower than 0.05! >_<

For some reason, and I'm not quite sure why, I have the impression that you're another person who takes games too seriously.

Not sure why though...

:D You've got to, I don't take it as seriously as I could, might going thesgl in the summer, then I would be super keen.

Leagues = serious gaming 4 hours training for 40 minute game
Mixes = fun competitive gaming 30-40 minute slot of your life
Public = boring 1 minute / kicked.

Its pretty simple really public is just waste.

That's not an update, it's a farce.

An update would be like the old games got, new maps, map tweaks, gun tweaks, perhaps even a new gun or some other useful features. Pointless achievements don't count as an update, I can't even believe people really care about achievements :/

have they sorted out the hitboxes yet
or the netcode, animations, movement, recoil, sounds or other visuals....

no? oh well, haven't played it for anything other than surf maps for years... wooo surf maps.

I used to play cs1.6 in clans and mixes, both great fun with the right people (my clan was more community than serious clan, practice was 5mins on pub before we made server private for the match). but I could never get into source, it just felt wrong. now they're adding more useless things to it that doesn't fix it's major issues. 1.6 is still as popular as source (maybe even more popular if some things I hear are true) and valve are scrambling to work out why when it's quite simple, the engine doesn't work.

shadows through walls/floors is an issue with the source engine, and it's stupid they haven't fixed it yet

I hope they do something with the sound effects, i think its the only thing that's still recycled from the old hl engine? :P

Don't know why people are moaning anyway CSS is the casual version of Counter Strike anyway , if you're that hardcore you would be playing 1.6
