Evening folks :)

I'm sure there are many of us on here who will be off to university in September/October. Just thought it would be cool to see where everyone is off to, and for those that have already been any advice/hilarious stories you have.

I for one am off to Nottingham Trent to study ICT with a year in industry, cannot wait to get out of Essex!

(yes I'm bored on a Saturday night :D)

Balliol Oxford. (MPhys) It was one of the best times of my life (I am now north of 40), The only advice I can give is, enjoy the experience, but don't forget why you are there.

I'm off to Southampton (real one ;)) for Mechanical Engineering MEng 4 year course next September after I complete an industrial year from this September.

Providing I get what should be easily achievable grades I'll be off to Bristol (UoB not UWE) for 4 years of Maths culminating in an MSci :)

Royal Holloway hopefully, to do a Masters, anyone else going there? Seems a tiny university so probably not. :p

Lol? For real? Across the road from the law school we have Weston Park, which is an entirely pleasant place... whilst next year I'll be living opposite the botanical gardens, which were really nice the other day.

Guess it might depend what building but the engineering one just seemed grim. :/

Remember that whilst your first year may not mean much, having a thorough grasp of the principles make the latter years that much easier.

From what I've seen, for a lot of people, this has been the difference between those that gets firsts and those that get 2:1s. Obviously there is a large self selection bias there, but the causation still should hold.

It also helps you build the correct study habits needed, since the difference between A-levels and university modules is large (at least for me it was).

last two weeks of my first year at bolton doing Bsc special effects at the moment, so will be going back for year 2 in september. Living in halls with 5 prefered friends - looking orward to it!

Really happy with the course / uni. obviosuly it's had its moments, but on the whole I'm really happy, got 2 outstanding lecturers who have just made the course so much better.

Advice to new students - start saving some money now, seriously, be as tight as you can possibly be until september, if you're going for a fairly intensive course, or want to really really pull your weight, there is not a lot of time to work and earn during term time. If you're going to uni @ 18, you might not notice the squeeze, but if you have been working, or been out of education for a stretch of time it might be hard to adjust. myself and a number of friends have noticed this, and just wish they didnt waste so much money prior to september!

To add to R B Customs post, if you plan on doing a Masters degree afterwards (assuming it isn't an MPhys/MEng or similar course) it is good to save from the beginning.

Always take out the maximum loan, it is the best debt you will ever get in your life and will be much better than anything you'll receive when trying to fund a Masters course.

If you are lucky enough to recieve bursaries from university and/or grants from the government, you should still take out the maximum loans. If in the end you don't need the money, you can always pay it pack losing nothing (if put into sensible savings accounts). If you do need it later for a Masters, you have a very low interest rate loan which you only pay for if you start earning £15k+ (which hopefully you will :)).

Obviously don't blow the money and get yourself into debt for no reason.

I am ending the first year of reading Economics at Brunel. Move out of the halls and back home on Saturday. I decided it was worth commuting in because it is a damn sight cheaper. The quality of housing in Uxbridge is terrible.

The course isn't that great but is a long way from being awful. The uni is investing a lot of money in it, with the maths modules being taught by mathematicians rather than economists, all of the lectures are in the newer buildings and the course has been redesigned with new modules being brought in.

Yeah, because we all wear our merch 24/7 .

*I look down at the team tracky bottoms I'm currently wearing*

FFFFUUUUUU!! :p

I don't think we actually wear our stuff much... I'm only wearing these because I've not left our accommodation site today.

:p

There were usually around a dozen guys walking around campus with the shirts and tracksuit bottoms every day. I never quite got it, unless they were trying to play out the US "jock" thing.

As for masters, just hope you get funding!
