Just moved into a new place and I'm after a recommendation for a tv card that will support the sky+ box. I've got Win7, so i'll probably be using media centre, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your thoughs!

What do you mean by supporting the sky+ box? Do you want a capture card that can be connected to the output of a sky+ box?

Sorry should have made myself clearer :o

Having just moved into a new place that already has a satellite, we thought that phone, broadband (and as a bonus sky tv) would be a good to get all in one. I don't have a tv at the minute, so basically I'm looking for a means of connecting a sky box to my pc. I used to have a tv card with it's own software, which was awful, so I'd probably prefer to have it integrate with media centre if possible for video capture etc.

I'm very out-of-the-loop with all of this. Will it be possible to have the pc recognise all the channels on sky (to be picked from the pc), or will I still have to use the sky remote for all that (and just feed to the pc as a single channel)?

Thanks :)

I reckon just getting a cheap tv would be easier! Or failing that, can you not just connect the sky box to your monitor? Sky HD boxes have hdmi out which a cheap converter should sort out

Maybe, but I already have a 24" monitor and a tv card is going to be 30-50 quid whereas a semi-decent tv would be quite a bit more. Might be able to use a splitter though, as you say, hadn't thought of that.

I have tried this before, and tbh the quality wasn't great using a tv card. much better even thru a cheapo tv! also, the hassle was much greater and with the cheapo tv one person can watch tv whilst one is on pc. if you get a 19" jobby for now, it can go in the bedroom at a later date...

Money really is at a premium at the moment, though, so I'd much prefer to have the cheaper option. Not being an avid tv watcher, I also have no use for one in the bedroom. I haven't even had a tv for the last 4 years.

You could use something like the Hauppauge WinTV Go which you can probably get for about a tenner. The quality wouldn't be great (rf input) but it's nice and cheap.

that's gonna be your cheapest option I reckon, but the quality will be rubbish. I'd look at some sort of connection to your monitor as you will have recording option on the sky box as minimum you will get these days is a sky+hd box...thus meaning a hdmi out, scart if you really have to use it!

Cheers for your help guys! I'll look at getting some kind of monitor connection then and ignore media centre. Anyone know what outputs the sky+ (non-hd) box has off-hand?
