On May 17, 2010 08:32 UTC, The Iceland Met office indicates that a small earthquake has occurred at the Katla location. In what could be an early indication of the event that is expected to occur (an eruption of Katla), a small earthquake is reported at the site. Although a single earthquake is not a precursor of an eminent eruption, it could be the first ’sigh’ of the awakening powerful giant.

Could this be the start of Katla eruption? One that has been feared by scientists and could cover Europe in an ash cloud for months, if not years...

News just in: dormant volcanoes are still active.

That said, Eyjafjallajökull is known to have triggered Katla on three other past occassions, and dormant volcanoes don't always remain completely dormant, otherwise they'd be extinct.

If it does, we can expect some interesting times ahead. It better not bugger with my plans though.

*shakes fist*

This is the 3rd or 4th Quake under Katla this month, at the moment they mean nothing, when we start to see swarms of 10+ per day then its time to start stocking up on supplies.

It's funny how these writers seem to have completely ignored the quake under Hekla 24 hours before this quake under Katla.

Everyone is jumping on the Katla bandwagon because the media are talking about it and completely forgetting the other 100+ volcano's in Iceland, some of which are showing signs of waking up.

Nothing we can do about it, would clean up the airspace that's for sure and get rid of the crappy airlines ;)

I concur with your fist shaking. I too am hoping to travel in the not too distant future...
