PSP was launched over six years ago and so far has remained free from any major changes to its model. Next month could change all that ?

Don't think so.

What more could they do to it? The graphics are already good enough for a hand held. They just need better software.

and no, it doesn't need a second analogue stick.

According to , a smattering of UK sources have confirmed that the PSP 2 is already in the UK with a forest’s worth of non-disclosure agreements handed out to publishers and developers.

The PSP2 is rumoured to be packing two cameras – one front-facing and one backward facing – which would support the idea that Sony is gunning for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s also claimed to be packing a touchscreen but has also kept the physical PlayStation buttons which should please hardcore gamers.

Agree with this. I guess they could put the UMD drive back, that would improve it. :p

Personally I think it does need a second stick, it would make games such as GTA much less fiddly, performing drive by's for example isn't as easy as it should be.

Also I think the graphics need updating, games such as Gran Turismo (PSP Vers) look incredibly pixellated. I'm hoping for at least PS2 quality in the next Playstation Portable.

And I believe the same rumours stated it had a 4 core Cell powering it, which seems a bit off.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony announce it at E3, they can't exactly let Nintendo have a head start.

With Nintendo's New 3DS i would be surprised if sony didn’t throw something out.

The main problem with the psp was that it was power but just not powerful enough to do full ps2 graphics, to use a statistic for the for the sake of my post let’s say 20% less power, so for the psp2 they could up the power of the device and finally add the 2nd analogue stick, but it’s still not enough to justify another hand held. (maybe they will add a 3d screen :p )

Remember all the rumour about the psp phone, with the success of the iphone they may want to try to get some of that market.

Guys check this out. :D

The legends over at VG247.com have uncovered something rather secret, Sony’s PSP 2.

They have basically gone through all of the rumours so far, added them up, spoke to some other sources and came up with what Sony don’t want you to know.

So far we know that the PSP2 has two cameras, one forward and one backward facing, it has a touch-screen, but also retains its standard buttons. We also understand that it could be 3G enabled, and that it is “******* powerful” as it is based on a four-core cell CPU.

Sounds great eh?

VG247 are reporting the device will be released in 2011, with a reveal probably coming at Gamescom.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did announce something but whether we really need it or not is another question.
It's all about the games to be honest so will have to wait and see what they come out with. Don't believe GT will be a launch or even near launch title ;)

If they could get a second analogue stick and get it backwards compatible with the PS2 catalogue then they might have something there, I know I would likely buy it if it means playing a lot of old PS2 games on it.

How would you get the PS2 games on there? ;)
Unless it would be through PSN but then they would have to open that up to the PS3 too?

four-core cell CPU

If it has a umd drive the battery life in the psp2 will be measured in minutes not hours.

the power of the device doesn't really matter not many dev took full advantage of the psp's power because a lot of people arnt willing to give portable games the dev budget they need.

Not true, God of War on PSP pushed it,

I remember getting the PSP a few days after it came out in Japan, mental, it seemed so ahead of it's time it was unreal.

Was it really 6 years ago? o_o

man I remember getting mine imported from japan and playing it at work on nights was so awesome playing against the guy across from me hard to believe it was so long ago :D
