I got hold of a used Dell mini 9 with xp. I have a 'sim not found' problem when trying to connect to vodafone or using the dell mobile wireless utility. I have seen the dell service pages that shows you how to take the machine apart and noticed that the wireless 3g card is seperate from the sim reader. Has anyone had this problem and changed the wireless 3g card with positive results. Just wondering if the sim reader could be at fault and not the card as the device manger finds the hardware and all drivers are present.

Stupid question, but is the 3G card unlocked? Will it accept a Vodafone sim or is it lock to another provider?
Sorry for the delay guys but, yes I have tried different sims including vodafone and orange. It had the vodafone software in it which although wouldn't let me connect to 3g it would let me send sms at first. Now I just get a 'sim not found message' whether using the vodafone or dell software.
