North Korea supposedly torpedo South Korean Ship

Why would NK bother attacking the SK ship anyway?

Seeing as we dont know (and probably never will know) what the SK ship was doing at the time, he may well have been trailing the NK sub for some time, active sonar pinging it and generally scaring the crew into expecting a depth charge attack.

If the SK boat captain gave the NK's sub more credit than what its worth, or expected longer endurance perhaps, the NK sub captain may have felt so threatened that he decided to loose off a torpedo at the boat?

There are too many reasons to list here, and people are thinking about this in the wrong way. Stop applying Western values to an eastern despot nation. These are the people who deny there is a famine and don't accept food aid whilst the citizens starve.

There is another side to this, what was the ROK ship doing at the time to lead a DPRK submarine to fire on it? We need more facts but you can guarantee the ROK/US will give us about as much factual information as the DPRK i.e. nothing but fairytales

People are applying normal thinking to NK, what you have to remember its like the old ussr, you don't get to be a sub captain by being a level headed individual, they are most likely die hard commy's and will have been brain washed from birth to believe the sk are the enemy.

As has all ready been back up in this thread it doesn't matter what the investigation concludes people will think its fake.

But the real question it what will sk do, this was an act of war and i don't care what country it is you cant let things like this pass.

This, you can't expect a country that insists its leader is some kind of demi-god who never has to go to the toilet as having any kind of legit reason for doing anything, they are mad.

Do anything and Seoul gets levelled so I don't see what they are going to do.
China is also against any military action so I can't see the US getting involved there either.

More importantly do anything and China will flex its military muscle then Russia will start flooding the far east with military then nato goes on alert then someone sneezes and it's 1914 with modern weapons and several nuclear nations all wondering what the hell to do next

But that's why I can't understand why they'd deny it if it was them. It's not like they claim indifference to each other.

first time it's been so severe.

The odd warning shot/nudge is one thing, torpedoing a ship and killing nearly 50 people isn't something the military can just hush up and be ignored, the public/government would have to do something.

The problem is that the experts from at least two of those countries are probably the same experts who said there was WMD in Iraq i.e. CIA & MI6 and therefore tainted. I'm sorry but I just don't believe them when they say North Korea did this.
I'm hardly surprised [at you].

The US have around 30,000 troops stationed in South Korea.

Makes zero difference how many troops they have in South Korea if they are not deployed in war.
They have thousands in Japan too but makes no difference.

Pretty sure China have far more troops in China than the US have in South Korea and Japan :p

China have far too much to lose if that get involved. Similarly Russia is back recreating relations with UK and US.... I'm not so sure America would get involved combat wise, but logistics, strategy etc. is another thing.

Either way, nothing will happen.

Are US troops not in South Korea, in oart to deter NK aggression ?

How can the US have such a military presence and not be involved be it at a diplomatic or even military level ?

Intel, sec ops etc. The US is not involved at all ?
