Hi

Just wondering if a high quality 650W PSU is enough to power the following?

I was going to get a 750W but I could do with saving the difference in cost plus the 750 isnt in stock anywhere and has no lead time available :(

There will be no OC

Phenom 965
4GB RAM
5870 x 1 (I will only be running one GPU)
3 x SATA HDD
2 x SATA Optical drives

I've done PSU tests and the result is 560W but the way I see it is a 750W PSU will be under less strain and theres only £15 difference really so it might be worth waiting for the 750, I have to wait to for the mobo to be released anyway so I dont mind waiting up until that point

Any advice appreciated, thanks

To answer your question 650w would be enough to power it yes.

As to what to do, you seem to have answered your own question with that one

wait for the mobo if the 750 comes in then get it if not no big deal the 650w will be more than fine (assuming it's of a good make).

Yeah just wanted confirmation of what I was thinking TBH

Its the Seasonic X's. I'll keep my eye open for 750W stock and if they dont turn up before the mobo does then i'll have to make a choice between the X-650 or Corsair HX750

The X750 was in stock at Amazon a couple of days ago too, damn my indecisive brain!

Antec are normally worth considering as well. their latest true power PSU's perform really well and at a good price in fact seasonic make their 650w version iirc.

650w will more than enough, my i7 system with crossfire 5850 pulls 430w ~ from the mains at full load.

They do, but I really want to go as modular as possible

What PSU do you have though!? :D

How much it draws from the mains is also affected by the efficiency of your PSU.

If your system needs 300W DC but your PSU is only 50% efficient, it will draw 600W from the mains.

Obviously the more efficient your PSU the better. These days 80-plus Silver standard is affordable, which means efficiencies of at least 88% at half-load, and 85% at high or low loads.

Im running similar to the OP but have a 955 X4 and a GTX 260 + 1 more HDD on a Enermax Liberty 500W no problems :)
