Aliens on Mars too I take it? Why would they sit on a (relatively) energy/resource sparse satellite when there is a rich inhabited planet only a short hop away? Argument fail.

an advanced scout / intel gathering force???

if they jsut pile in and try and kill everyone in a day there could be a few nukes going off, which would spoil their nice new planet... better to gather intel, and make sure you can disable any dangerous stuff... even if you have a ship with a hull that cannot be penetrated a nuke is still gonna mess up you prize...
