Surprised there isn't a thread about this.

Seen this a few days a go on Engadget. I've always thought working conditions and how people live there in China in any industry would be very poor, but this has shocked me more, maybe given the nature of the industry.

Any way...source

What's everyone else's thoughts?

Oh wow. Thats horrific.

Never thought/always hoped Foxconn, or any other company would treat employees as bad as that.

Edit: That sounds really naïve. I know that there were industries like that, just not Foxconn.

john west tuna ! ive not seen the factory but my mate told me its enough to stop eating the stuff

very bad tho......thing is we always forget about the people who makes the products and what they go through, we just enjoy the finished product.

so next time you fly on an airbus, take alook at the wings, imagine me crawling round inside that wing in 70+ heat, wearing a silly bump hat, and glasses that steam up, and chemicals and agents that are carcinogen,

then enjoy your holiday!

Working on factories here in England for 33 years I haven't got the slightest clue what they're going on about.
I had at least 20 friends commit suicide in that time and at least 100 who had nervous breakdowns because of working conditions.

Doesn't seem that bad, in fact i've seen far worse working conditions in this country. i myself did 100+hour weeks when i was 18-21.
At least over there if you have a cold you are sent home, i've seen people prepare food with very runny nose's here, to me thats far worse

Doesn't seem that bad, they get a minimum wage and seem to be able to afford luxury items. Sure everyone wants a better job and more money but that's the way it is.

The Chinese government are a main cause of the problems in this world imho.

It is amazing how they have transformed China, India has done well but it doesn't come close. Just highlights the fact that sadly in this world being a **** unfortunately gets results.

But for how long. Once they are on par with us and it is no longer to our benefit we will suddenly care for their human rights.

I'm not sure why they think the suicide rate is high. 400,000 workers is like the population of Liverpool or Manchester. I haven't seen the statistics for each city but I think we have around 3500 suicides a year in the UK.

It's not shocking or poor.

When will people wake up and realise you can't go from 3rd world to first world over night.

Those are the jobs which bring in the money and grow the economy. As the economy grows and the country gets richer, you slowly add more and more human rights. There is no other way of doing it.

I saw this about an hour ago on the news. I've known for several years that Foxconn makes motherboards for PCs, but I didn't know that they are also the maker of some Apple products.

I feel so sorry for those poor young workers :(

Where the hell did you work? I have been in work over 35 years never heard of a suicide because of working conditions.

Are you sure they was not trying to tell you something :D
