Just ordered one of these puppies for a client. Stupidly remembered too late that the RAM i'm using is some 6GB CAS 6 Gskill Trident with the raised heat spreaders. I'm going to be using an Asus P6T SE with an i7 920 currently at 4Ghz 1.34v, reason i'm getting this sink is that with the current H50 temps are touching 90C which is no good obviously. Can the rear fan be pushed up slighltly to accomodate the RAM or can another orientation be used? Thanks!

You'll be able to move the fan up as much as you want to accommodate the RAM. Someone managed to get the Patriot Vipers to fit so you might have some luck. The tridents do look quite tall though. It's worth trying it for yourself to check :).

[snip] the spreader, its only there for looks anyhow [snip]

Well said.

Ghmm hmm, I wonder whether the vertical displacement of the rear fan can adversely affect the push/pull config...

Naturally, even if it does indeed the differences are bound to be minuscule, probably well within the common error margin, still the subtle changes could be worth exploring.

I could build a model of the Noctua and run a flow simulation... could be interesting. Something to keep in mind when I find myself utterly bored and jaded.

Mine should be here by Tuesday. I'm taking off my ram spreaders too if needed. Hope you are right and they don't melt down haha
