Perhaps they didn't do any research and their equipment dissolves in water, and they landed during a rain storm. After ship crashed, the only surviving pilot was found, completely naked due to the dissolving thing, and captured. When his carrier / command ship detected the crash, they investigated and discovered the industrial acid covering 75% of the planet's surface, wrote the pilot off and left for planets with less weird and violent creatures on it.

Or, it's a really obvious CGI and whoever 'Ruled it out as CGI' needs to be fired if that's their job.

What is the absolute obsession that an alien of any type, would even have a humanoid form?? Surely we can be more creative otherwise, evolution becomes a joke to think that the same events that happened on this planet billions of years ago were almost happening in parallel with some other planet, solar system, galaxy for these aliens to even remotely take on human form.
