So what's the next "big thing" for tv then ... ?

Gotta put another shout in for Justified, it's based on some books, which is usually a good start. From the first few episodes I was worried the bodycount to population ratio was going to be a bit midsomer murders, but it's calmed down and evened out nicely.
The main character has an old school cowboy thing going on which is pretty cool. It's been pretty good, had it's fair share of action and still bin believeable so far. A few of the episodes were touching on the edge of believeable though, bad guys recognising he can draw quick and trying to outdraw him? duh.... just do something else?

A Game of Thrones should be good, but with a couple of books still to be writen i'm worried about the wrap.

Also i'm going through 5 seasons of How i Met your Mother. Excellent throw away TV. The sort you can come back to after a couple of weeks and pick it up for some fun, or if you've had a crap day, it will cheer you up!

Otherwise it's just Chuck and waiting on House.

Castle & Justified I think are both worth watching.

Castle is a police drama type thing but with a bit of comedy as well and has Mal from firefly in the lead role. 2nd series has just finished in the states.

Justified is another cop drama with the chap who played 47 in the hitman film in the lead role. When it started in the states it was the most popular new series on the FX network since the shield.

I dunno how long Justified can stay fresh and interesting tho... the first episode was pretty good but its been average from then on.

'No Ordinary Family' is a new show starting August/September time this year, has potential to be awesome (the next big thing). Should be a trailer or whatever on youtube.

There are quite a few pilot shows of different genres that could be good, we'll just have to wait and see.

I've really enjoyed Flash Forward for a first season!! Not sure what will happen if it gets renewed though.
Have a feeling there will be quite a few big new shows in the autumn.

The thing is, the shows that get hyped to be the 'Next big thing' are usually the ones that turn out to be crap and get cancelled after one series, a good example being FlashForward, it wasn't crap but it wasn't the hit we were all expecting.

It's normally the stuff that comes out of left field that are the suprise 'hits', I don't think anyone expected anything of Lost at first, they did advertise it a lot but I don't think people were talking about it as the 'Next big thing' before it aired, it was a fluke in many ways, a 'once in a lifetime' type of thing, as Darlton have mentioned many times over the years.

Don't even get hype over anything these days or follow any tv show.

Ill watch like random police shows if im watchin tv as there is nothing on.
Working my way through family guy also - only on S2 at the moment (not finding it hilarious and prefer South Park)

Though recently as in (the last few months) i got hooked to chuck and have just watched the final episodes today - and waiting for the next series. Still excited on what will happen even if he is a proper spy now :P

criminal minds
fringe
Supernatural

are the only shows that i look forward to seeing now lost and 24 are finished, they don't really come under the next big thing status though

Spartacus looks to be very good, especially if my brother wasn't exaggerating [he lives in the US and visited this week ].

However, it could be a while for Season 2 as the guy who plays Spartacus was diagnosed with cancer. Production has been halted for the time being.

Big props for Spartacus from me, fantastic show. Can certainly go the distance too with the vast subject matter, even if they do want to stay true to the Spartacus story more or less.
