Hi,
Recently brought a new system through overclockers, all is well with the hardware but win7 is driving me mad....
If I were to dump win7 and revert back to win xp would the xp operating system utilise the full power/potential of my i7proccesor on an asus P6TD m/b with 6 GB of ram?
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Cheers...

Something very very wrong with your system if you are having probs with Windows 7 Nothing to date has better drivers et al

If the OP is about to reply with "it doesn't feel right" or "I can't get used to it" then may I suggest you suck it up and give it a chance?

No doubt you have been using XP for the last 8 or 9 years without so much as going near Vista. You will be feeling apprehensive about using a new, superior OS after so much time in the dark. Windows 7 is the light. Step into the light and be freeeee!

Win 7, best OS yet parctically installs it self plus lot faster too install as well. :)

It has its little niggles but its no big deal, give it a couple of week's and you'll wonder why you want to go back to XP. ;)

i now hate using winxp and vista, even though xp was and still is a great os.

can't for the life of me think why you would not want win7 on a nice shiny i7 machine.

I agree with the people saying that it should be given a chance. I've used nearly all of the Window's OS's and 7 has been the only one that I don't regard as fundamentally flawed. Still, if it's not for you, then there's no point in using it. Would definitely give it a chance though

Agree with all of the above.. Besides Win7 is more optomised to take advantage of your extra cores.. XP to me now seems sooooooooooooooooo dated.. I still have it on dual boot, but never ever boot to it.. EVER.. !

Any problems you have with it, have to be down to user or bad hardware..

You have to let go my friend. It's had a good run, but the days of regeditting viruses out of your registry are over. Have a look round some of the desktops in the desktop thread for ideas on how to get it going how you like it. Hell, I'm sure there's an xp theme somewhere to help wean you off of it :p

win7 perseverance...

Sounds like it's my issues rather than the o/s.
Just seem to have trouble with both old and new games crashing and can't seem to get some of my software to install properly, in some cases not at all..
May be I haven't got things set up correctly, I will persevere....
Thanks for the advise guys...

Older software may not install correctly, especially if it was originally written for XP before Vista came along. Have you tried running them in compatability mode?

Or don't install to the Program Files folder, as UAC prevents unauthorized programs from messing around with files in there. Games used to create their saves in the game's directory, which will be blocked by UAC, and likely lead to crashes as it isn't expecting this.
