I'm looking for a car.

LOL!

I passed my test about 6 months back, and since then I have been using my dad's E36 316i. I'm now bored.

I have a keen interest in early 90's late 80's hot hatches, i.e. Swift GTI, 205 GTI, Starlet Tubby etc.

Think is, I'm 20 and have no no-claims.

Can you list the pro's and con's of some of the good late 80's early 90's hot hatches please, and some advice to boot?

Thanks

Any one help me please?

Specifically thinking of:

Suzuki Swift GTI
Toyota Starlet Turbo
Pug 205 GTI 1.9
Ford Fiesta XR2i
Citroen AX GT
Clio Williams

Any others I can look at?

Civic 16-16 or CRX

TBH though, your going to pay through the roof insurance for an old rot box

I ran a quote through Adrian Flux for the Swift GTI, it came out at £1300 TPFT.

I'm not really bothered how much insurance is, but would be good if it stayed under £2K.

I'm want speed and agility.

All the above are hot hatches but all are very different. What do you want in a hot hatch? I can tell you my favourite but that's not really any use without some context...

I want something light-weight and agile, whilst still retaining some speed. I like the styling of the Swift GTI.

I had an AX GT between 2001-2004. It was extremely reliable and good fun to throw around but it's massively underpowered compared to the hot hatches available today.

I actually really enjoyed owning that car. Thanks OP for reminding me! :)

Is that so you can kill yourself in seconds, showing off to your mates ?

Buy something sensible and build up your no claims so you can get something nicer in a few years time.

I have been 'showing off' in front of mates in my dads bimmer. It gets boring, fast. And when I got roasted for destroying his rear's I stopped.

Now I would kill to own a DC2 Teggy Type R JDM, I really would. But for now, a nice old hot hatch will do, there different, like me, so it suits.

So he was kind enough to allow you to use his car and you repaid him by abusing it?

Nice, nice.

Considered a Corsa SRi?
