What other games would you compare the Penumbra series too? always been thinking of getting them so would be nice to hear views.

I haven't played any game like it, very unique. It's almost like one of those point and click adventure games but in first person and with horror elements.

There are puzzles to solve to get to other areas, items to pick up to add to your inventory which can be used with other items in your inventory or any object you find.

Also the interactivity is nice, there is not a "use" key, you do everything by clicking on stuff. For example to open a door you have to click and hold then either move the mouse forward or back to push the door forward / back. Or to swing a hammer you click and hold then move the mouse in the direction you want to swing it.

Joking aside:

FEAR - for the first hour perhaps. After that it is pretty much a copy paste jobbie for the rest of the game.
Resident Evil - 1 and 2 used to be scary. Not so sure about the new incarnations.
Silent Hill - the first one scared the bejebus out of me! Again, some of the new ones are hit and miss.
Half Life 2 - Just the Ravenholme section! :p
 
Doom 3 was the last game I played that got me going, The anticipation was perfect. Pretty GFX spoil it nowadays.
 
Condemned-Criminal Origins vs FEAR! Hmmm... Start with FEAR then advance to CCO. You must be warned, DO NOT PLAY CCO IN THE DARK IN THE EARLY EARLY MORNINGS.
