It's not because of the history, it's because we (along with france, germany...) pay for most of it.

Apparently that happened, because once they started doing semi-finals and qualifiers - one time Germany didn't make it, meaning they didn't get Germany's funding - and clearly this was a problem....!

We output much of Europe's best music - but we stick dross into Eurovision. It'd be unfair if we kept winning

EDIT: I do think, most of the time - our dross can be much better than the rest of the dross. But it'd be good to see a little more variety rather than just beautiful men and women singing pop.

Hahahha. I always thought we had such rules to go by which is why they were always unknowns. But Katrina and the Waves were big in their day (Walking on Sunshine) and Sweden has put in Carola 3 times (she's a much-loved 40-something singer who's been successful over there since the 80s).

I think in the UK, 1) we don't really want to win and 2) anyone who's actually /good/ won't touch it with a bargepole.

I just said to my dad I might have a dabble on Ukraine at 100/1, if I remember rightly, their song this year wasn't bad at all. Azerbaijan are up first apparently.
