Nokia N900

Christo: Im trying the oc via the link you posted - my current frequency is 850

Am I right in thinking I shouldnt go any further (I havent o'clocked it at all).

What's the latest software? The phone is telling me to update but the software updater shows I am running 3.2010.02.8 and that this is the latest available?

10.2010.something

Is yours a branded or locked phone by any chance?
Have you tried updating it over the air?

Guys, if you havent overclocked your phone - do it now! I just did and its made such a difference - its snappy, and far more usable. Its only been overclocked a little so Id say very little danger of problems/battery issues. v happy!:)

Its v easy you just download the application from the App Manager (type in Kernel), restart and hey presto.

What do you have yours at?

Still under heavy development, but how cool is this:

OCR plus translation software, not bad! Guess wherever you are, you point the phone at a sign you can't read, snap a pic, then feed it to this. Would be even nicer if they could integrate it with the camera's viewfinder so you don't have to take a picture as an intermediate step, just look through the phone and see a translated version automatically, would be basically using the phone as an augmented reality device.

Just bought one of these friday... I'm loving it!

I just wonder if anyone knows why it won't let me connect to the Ovi Store? It says go and update to Maemo 5, but it is already Maemo 5 :/

You need to have Maemo 5 release PR1.2

Since it's a new phone, best way would be to download Nokia Software Updater and do it over USB. This will wipe the phone's main memory, so backup first if you have put stuff on there.

Dunno what Ive done but Ive killed my N900. Just goes into a continuing loop of rebooting. Looked at re-flashing it but flasher wont work on Win 7 64 bit, aarrgghhhhhhhh!!!

Going to have to find someone now with an 'old' machine :)

Apparently it works just fine in a virtual machine. Failing that maybe an Ubuntu bootable "live CD" would be an option for you?

There's two parts to XP mode. MS Virtual PC which is free to all versions of Windows 7, and XP Mode which requires Win7 pro. If you do not have Win7 pro then you will need to provide your own operating system CDs and licence key, then install them into the VM as if you were installing to a fresh PC, rather than using the automated XP Mode stuff.

Does anyone use there N900 with a car charger?

I've been using my old 5800 charger that i brought from a major retail store, none genuine, with the adaptor that came with the n900.

However when using Sat Nav software and playing music through my car's HU (headphone jack into front aux), The phone actually uses more battery power than it can take from the charger. Is this normal or is it a problem with the charger?

The Mains charger than come with the phone charges it fine. I've also found that when charging from my pc at work using the data cable, it charges very slowly too.

Since I updated I haven't been able to see my MSN contacts in "Conversations". It gets them fine in the contacts, and conversations has all the other IM contacts, just not MSN - Any idea what I did to break it?
