Gents,

My mother has got it into her head she wants to buy a brand new Volkswagen Fox.....Don't ask why!!!!

We've never bought a brand new car from a dealership so just after some advice re: haggling etc. what kind of deals are there to be had buying from a franchised dealer generally?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

James

look at the brokers such as broadspeed and drive the deal that should give you a good starting point

Please don't get a brand new Fox, they're horrible, horrible things made for the Brazilian market!

Have a look at Fiats, you should be able to get a ridiculously good deal on new or nearly new ones..

You won't get much savings on a Fox, my wife bought one 3 years ago and there were no savings of note on drivethedeal etc. Also they seem to have hiked the price well over 10% since then, and the resale value on a Fox likely won't be great because they are a fairly unknown/unpopular model (i.e. people won't often actively search them out).

edit: One thing I did like about the Fox was that it is feels really spacious for such a small car. You don't feel cramped at all as a passenger in front or back.

Panda 1.2 :) The 1.1's don't even have a rev counter or remote central locking  1.2's are much better spec'd. Cheap too

Alternatively - A Twingo? More expensive but much newer design

The Fox isn't cheap or worth the premium. Talk her into something sensible :)

Had the new Polo as a hire car abroad and was impressed with it.

I would not hesitate to check one out if looking for a car of this size.

FIAT 500. Very cute, but drives like any other boggo hatch and is overpriced when compared to a Panda. For all that, seems to hold it's value very well, meaning that it's overall running costs should be very good (i.e. once you take into account depreciation).

Alfa Romeo Mito (from a current Alfa owner hehe). Same as a Fiat, but less common.

The new Polo starts at something stupid like 12k though!
The Polo starts at a shade under £10k. My mum has the brochures for the Polo/Fox/Golf as she gets a company car every 3 years. I couldn't see any reason for buying the Fox, at first I figured it would be a high MPG car, the Polo actually seems better on that front.
