Has a show ever recovered after being canned?

Short answer is no - shows can be brought from hiatus, but almost never from cancellation - Kojak and Jeriho being the only two, relatively bad examples in history how it doesn't actually benefit network to bring series from dead back to life.
The only realistic way is for show to jump ships, but for that to happen, the intellectual rights have to be solely with show/character creators rather than network, which again - almost never happens. As an example of the latter - cretins at Showtime cancelled Stargate SG-1 after 5th season. The creators and the show were instantly signed up by Sci Fi and it has gone for another what - 5 seasons and several spin offs. Creators can also buy the show out from cancellation - happened with Xena and Baywatch, to name but two - both left their networks and became syndication only shows without anchored station/mothership.

problem with firefly is they made a film and killed half of them off....not the best way to leave it open for a sequel / new series.

The main problem was that the film was a box office flop. Barely broke even and with advertising costs thrown in I believe it made a loss. It was never going to be brought back after that.

Thanks people. I looked into the Jericho thing, and I'm considering a campaign/petition to get scrubs back on air :p

I live in hope

The last season were on a different network, then they had a "spinoff" using most of the main cast was introduced and to be honest was just poor compared to scrubs. I don't want to see it back, I liked how 8 ended.

My mate told me about a series called Brotherhood, said its coming back for another season? Wiki shows it as canned so that maybe one, anyone know?

It's easy to hate American tv shows

They extend good shows and drag them out too long..

Lost
Prison Break
Heroes

Lost was the best thing since sliced bread when it came out, I watched it to the end, but got less excited after S03E02

I watched episode 1 of flash forward and gave up....I thought it was going to be one of those never ending story type that they drag out for as long as possible.

I'm sure I heard that they do this because when they reach something like 70 episodes of a series it can then go to every network and that's when the writers start making real money.

No.

As pointed out, it has reached it's final point. There is nothing more that can be done with it. Medschool was basically going back to season 2 of scrubs story wise with all the new people getting mocked and being generally useless.

The fact that all but Cox and Turk moved on is a sign that it was time to end it. As much as I loved Scrubs for it's 8 seasons, it ended at the right point, and theres nothing more that the can, nor needs to be done with it.

The point of Medschool is not that it's a continuation of scrubs, but it was intended to be a new show, that featured characters from the previous show.

Lucy was a bit one dimensional I admit, but if the story switched the focus to Cole, or Drew and Denise's relationship, then it would make it a lot more interesting and it would be good to go. Also, medschool is a lot more story intense than the original. I feel like it's told more in one season than scrubs ever did.

I really loved the one season of medschool
