Will you be swaping the Desire for an iPhone4?

The HTC/Desire browser will let you turn off flash content, so maybe compare then? Also, the 2.2 browser will let you set the user agent to an iPhone which should mean websites designed with the iPhone in mind should work just as well.

God, I think I'm starting to sound like a fanboy :(

that is really useful to know

are htc bringing out a 900*600 res desire any time soon?

I doubt it and tbh I don't think it will make it better. If the "4G" has the same size screen as the 3Gs (not sure what the possible prototypes have) then that resolution will be a bit of a pain.

There is/was a suggestion that the HD3 will have a much higher res screen as well but I think the same there, even though the screen is around .7" bigger the resolution would be way too high.

do people prefer the iphone interface to a sense android one?

i have found the user experience of the iphone to be much more polished (the substance isnt there) but there is a very polished feel to the whole experience.

iPhone was kind of like walking around wearing a grown up nappy / training pants

Desire/Andriod lets you be freeee.. and make your own decisions rather than what Lord Jobs dictates.

Android users really don't help themselves by coming out with remarks like this. Clearly the 'fanboy' comments often made about Apple users are quite ironic.

I will be getting the new iPhone. Fine, the Desire is a great device with a great OS. However I want the uniformity of iPhone OS. I've had years of customising my Symbian phones to death, and yes the freedom to do the same with Android is nice, now I just can't be bothered. I find it very strange that some people's way of thinking is genuinely like 'Apple won't let you do xyz, they dictate how you use your phone'. I'm sorry, that's just odd.

iPhone OS is such a polished experience. Even if it's only 1% more polished than Android, it's a noticeable difference to me. I know it isn't as deep, but I don't need Flash, or custom ROMs etc. People bang on about things like this making Android superior- of course, only if you desperately want those features :/ It doesn't make it a superior OS for anyone who doesn't need those things. That's why this thread is ridiculous, not because Android is undoubtedly better.

People keep tooting the polished experience line but all you're doing is experiencing Job's polish.

I'm more hands on and prefer to polish my own equipment exactly how I want and when I want and then share that experience with the rest of the community.

Why else is do you think the Android modding and customisation community so ripe right now while everyone else goes round talking about a polished out of the box experience ;)

I'm all in favour of being able to mod and customise my stuff, if I wanted to. However taking stock Android (even with Sense) and iPhone OS, take someone who wants to do bugger all in terms of modding and customising, it would be quite daring to say that Android is head and shoulders better than iPhone. In no way am I suggesting that Android is crap, but just because it has the ability to do things iPhone can't, doesn't make it categorically better. It's superior for you because you want to do those things. I don't, so Android is still better? I'm not sure about that.

You're quite right. If you want to fit in with the flock and don't want to have to "Think Different" then the iPhone will be your ideal choice.

Oh dear: 'Fit in with the flock'? 'Don't want to have to "Think Different"'? What is that about? Seriously, it is really perplexing

He means a huge amount of people will buy the iPhone blind because it's an iPhone.

You may not be one of those people however :p

anyone changed their mind?

Nope but theres a good chance that i might just buy one...to see what the fuss is all about and if im not suitably impressed...which is pretty certain then ill sell to some apple fanboi who has more money than sense:p

Dont think id sell my Desire for an iphone though....if i was to sell my Desire it would be because i dont have a need for it...at the moment i like my desire pretty much.

^^ Haha I love Khaaaaan, sig quote goodness!

Nope, why would I want a lesser phone?

Besides, the iPhone 4 is practically an iPad scaled down with a gyroscope and front facing camera bolted on ;)

The new iPhone looks like a lovely piece of hardware - great screen, thin, relatively good battery life, but it's going to be expensive as hell and I still think the Android home screen/widgets design concept is more useful.
Android also does integration with Gmail and notifications better.

I'm sure HTC + co will have even more competitive hardware out shortly.

iPhone 4 looks pretty nice, really good specs, I found it hard to get excited about though, just don't like the same old homescreen and same old everything, that's one of those things I love about Android, it's the same operating system I had over a year ago but it has advanced so far in terms of capability and look in that short time.

Android devices are already on par with this offering in a lot of ways, processing power, screen quality, 3D capabilities and there are going to be even more powerful ~ 1.2GHz dual core snapdragons announced probably near the end of the year. The only real new thing it's bringing to the table is the highest resolution screen i've seen on a mobile, but is all that DPI really needed?
