Hi guys!

Got a Q6600 from a friend about 4 months ago and planned on selling it. Unfortunately, i've been asked numerous times regarding what VID it has and I could'nt answer them as I have'nt tried it.

Tonight I decided to install it on my son's P35 DS3R using the stock E5200 Heatsink and came up with the following result.

Can anyone confirm that the VID of this Chip is 1.2875 as reflected on Core Temp? You see, CPUID is reflecting 1.136 while Hardware Monitor is saying 1.15. You think this CPU is a keeper and capable of 3.6 OC?

Any opinion is highly appreciated.:D

Yep, the coretemp vid is the one, 1.2875 is pretty good, had a 1.2750 chip that clocked stable at 3.8ghz, 1.51 vcore, though i ran it at 3.6ghz on 1.4vcore most of the time.

What heatsink did you use Setter? My E5200 is running 3.6 on stock heatsink with no problem at all. Would I be better off selling the E5200 and keeping this one but spend some quid on a decent cooler or sell this one and keep my E5200?

I used a Thermalright ultra extreme black, lapped both it and the cpu when clocking to 3.8ghz, personally id keep the q6600, more games are starting to utilise quads and it should last you a good while, a good cooler will be a must as the q6600 can run pretty hot.

The thing is, i've already got an I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz and I also got a Q9550 for my son running @ 3.825. It's more like a spare PC actually.

Nice dilema to be in,:) the q9550 is a cracking cpu as well, had one at 3.8ghz after the q6600, now on i7. If you could try to see what sort of clock you can get from the q6600 you could possibly sell it on at a decent price. Proven good clockers are snapped up pretty quickly. The E5200 would be grand in a spare machine.

Yeah! That's what i'm thinking. I'll play with it some more as i've got a spare Noctua NHU12P here. Just got to find a 775 adapter. For casual usage, the E5200 is more than enough for my missus Facebook and chat.:D

Appreciate your opinion mate. Cheers.

Wow! Booted on windows at 3.5Ghz with 1.375VCore on stock E5200 heatsink:eek:

It looks like the VID does'nt change even if you add more volts to VCore.

Thats right, vid is basically what the chip needs to run at its full default speed of 2.4ghz, if you can get it stable at 3.5 on that voltage thats pretty good, mine required 1.3750 for 3.4ghz.

Well, i've been testing my Q6600 @ 3.2 Ghz and 3.6Ghz using a P35 DS3r mobo and so far the 1.2875 VID reflected on Core Temp 99.5 hasn't changed irregardless of whether I enable EIST, TM and speedstep. At the moment i'm running 3.6 Ghz OC on a 1.4625 VCore in bios using stock E5200 heatsink and I was able to play MW2 without any problem. I have'nt benched it with Prime95, IBT or LinX cause it definitely would'nt survived the heat. Voltage requirement might differ though on a different mobo.

Here's the scrennie of the 3.6Ghz OC.

Comparing to above scrennie, Stock, 3.2 OC, 3.5 OC and this last one, 3.6 OC, the VID stays the same in Core Temp.
