Asus rampage III Extreme

I have a link for the beta 0704 bios:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ewjmozfmjym

Notes:
1. Added additional memory options (tRFC settings) to improve overclocking
2. Enable support for "Subzero Booster" for improved LN2 overclocking capabilities
3. Enabled additional CPU support for CPU Level Up functionality
4. Improved 3D performance at stock settings

Note - New microcode and the third party applications are not reading VCore correctly at this point, either use ProbeIt, ROG Connect, or a DMM for actual voltages. Asus are working with the third party vendors to correct this.

Note - Uncore setting will now scale with BCLK settings when set to Auto. Manual settings will be required when running BCLKs over 220 to ensure stability and improved BCLK rates.

Note - LN2 Modes might need to be adjusted to improve cold clocking capabilities. Auto = LN2 mode 2, setting to LN2 Mode 1 will result in potentially better overclocking below -140C. This is dependent upon CPU quality and cooling.

The usual disclaimer, try at your own risk.

Hi

I`m now starting to do some overclock testing on my system and I was wondering if anyone that has a very simler setup as mine could
please post their best bios settings results they have found that will give me a 4GHz overclock on my i7 980X with a CORE Voltage
low enough for least amount of heat and should still remain stable and available option for setting my Corsair Dominator GT
6GB RAM at 2000MHz???

Thank You for responding.

Yeah but the card he is on about is a tripple slot, plus a little extra where the fan grill on the card goes:

Indeed. And I was just about to buy the Rampage III. Oh well. Too late on the 5970's though, I ordered 2 of the non toxics. 1st ones arrvied and clocked to 980mhz at 1.27v. Running in trifire with a 5870 Toxic for now. 2nd 5970 Non toxic should be here Monday. The only advantage the Toxic has it seems (besides possibly clocking higher) is it included the active display port adaptor.

If it all goes to S*** which i think it has im going to get a new board. Im going round a mates house now with my ram to test it on his motherboard. If the ram is screwed then i guess i will buy new ram but personaly i think its the mother board. Will let everyone know on next post.

Whats a good alternative motherboard for gaming? Soemthing that is quite newish?

EVGA Classified 760 is qualified to run your ram and has a very good slot layout. You can fit a X-Fi, 3 double slot cards in Trisli, and a physx card. Or one of the new gigabytes if you need usb3 and sata 3.

Out of curiosity, why are those cards so ridiculously priced? Almost double the price of the 2GB version, so you pay about 500 quid for 2GB of memory on the graphics card, which doesn't even make that much difference anyway...

If I was spending the same money I would consider a 3-4 way SLI with GTX 480s and watercool them, about the same price yet a heck of a lot faster.

Correct about price. Not sure why it's so high to be honest. The extra 2gig does come into it's own in eye infinity or even running on a 30" at 2560 with max AA. Recent reviews have shown this. Also a recent review I saw with latest drivers and real world benches put the 5870 on par with GTX 480. Not behind it. So one of these 5970 4gigs should be on par or faster then a GTX 280 SLI setup. Roughly the same money then. 3 way GTX 480's doesn't scale at all, nowhere near what people are getting with TriFire and 4 way is a joke.

simulator man, at the beginning i am planning on not OCing but i do want to run my ram at 2000 mhz, i see you got that done :) would u mind telling me how ? did u just XMP or manually set the timings ?

According to the manual you need both of those 8 pin connectors your talking about EATX12V_1 and EATX12V_2 connected to the PSU or the system will not boot.

Has anyone tested their system without those 8 pin's connected to see if the system still fully works without problems, even when overclocking???

You don't, my 920 runs at 4 ghz stable w/ just 1 8 pin.

So anyone know yet why I would need the extra 8?

For those of you having the 4GB only being detected out of 6GB RAM...

For the first time in about 2 months that I have had this board I booted it up only to find that 4 out of 6GB of my RAM was detected. I tested each stick and slot individually, all worked fine. I then did a cold boot, still 4GB, powered on again, 6GB, and it's working fine again... what the hell? It's obviously a BIOS bug anyway, so those having problems I wouldn't worry too much about it, should get patched fingers crossed :).
