These are photos I've taken over the past few days, nothing too gory I hope.

So.. take one 22 year old, some weld that needed grinding flat.. an angle grinder.. a grinding disc too big for said angle grinder.. and the removal of the safety guard (to allow the oversize disc ;))

Yes, I'm an idiot.

It will be two weeks (this wednesday) that I did this. The last pic is of it now, it still hasn't healed fully.

So OcUK motors.. don't let your finger come into contact with a grinding device of any sort :p

I've ground and my fingers on an off-hand grinder before. It's really easy to do when you're grinding something tiny.

Also, I know a bloke who was grinding some weld away underneath a car, and managed to drop the grinder on his face. Luckily it landed with the disc side on, and just very badly grazed him.

Anyway, grinders have the potential to be extremely dangerous, so be careful, and don't make it do things it's not designed for! Fortunately you escaped with minor wing damage.
 
I'm an idiot, I only learn once I've injured myself... I managed to severely burn my right arm under my elbow last year in a welding accident.

I was wearing googles Marine :D

Danza, our mechanic had a grinder bite into something he was grinding under a truck in the pit one day. The grinder kicked back and hit hit across the nose leaving a nasty gash that had to be glued up at hospital, fortunately the blade hadn't hit him, just the grinder!

and yes Grudas, it was touch and go for a few mins... :p

Ive ground through my nail with a bench grinder before sharpening a small drill. It happens. Hurt like hell!

The guard is there for a reason, plus, the disc could have fragmented. Small discs are run at higher speeds. A larger disc is not designed to be ran at those speeds. It could have exploded in your face.
 
Was working with my Dad once and a disc shattered, Glad I was wearing trousers and a jumper that day. Makes a right ol mess that.

Should have had your gloves, googles and ear defenders on for using that grinder! Says the health and safety people anyway.

I did something similar, except the disc broke up and bounced off the underside of the car and into my chest :o Thank **** I was wearing heavy duty overalls and a couple of layers underneath - I only ended up with some slight grazing but the clothes were destroyed!
 
I think its far worse getting a grinding spark in your eye (especially seeing as both times I was wearing eye protection - first it bounced off my shirt, visor and into my eye. The second time it actually found a hole through a pair of goggles!).

The in your eye bit is nothing really, other than very annoying, but having a doctor trying to remove an embedded piece of steel (splinter from hell?) from my eye with a needle really isn't pleasant - I was almost sick when he forcefully moved my eye whilst trying to get it out.

I've nearly taken and angle grinder to my stomach as it caught a loose bit of clothing, but lucky once it had wound up my clothing tight enough to make it difficult to breath, it had run out of puff and jammed up.

Another good one pain wise is drilling the palm of your hand :(
