Full Game Trial

Try before you buy on selected PlayStation Network and Blu-ray Disc titles

This premium feature for PlayStation Plus members gives you so much more than existing demos on PlayStation Store. With Full Game Trial, you can download the full game and play it as if you owned it for one hour before you decide if you want to buy it. So you can check out the online modes, play against friends or anything else you’d normally do with a game for the whole hour, then decide if you want to buy it.

You can download two games a month as a Full Game Trial and if you buy the game at a later date, all your progress from the trial, plus any unlocked trophies will be immediately available so there's need to start all over again.

Automatic Download
Automatically receive the latest system software, game updates and demos.
Set your PlayStation 3 to automatically receive the latest PS3 system software updates and game updates for all the games you play and even get game demos sent directly to your PS3 without lifting a finger.

No more waiting to play your favourite game because there is a new patch or having to remember when the latest system software update is launched, let your PS3 do the work.

Just set the time you want to receive updates and demos and your PS3 will wake up and automatically download everything, ready for when you next want to play.

Full game trial sounds 'okay' but then you don't get very far in an hours play, I suppose it's better than downloading a demo because from the way that is written it says that it's the full game you get to download and try, although, those are going to be some hefty downloads for only an hours worth of access, especially if you don't like the game. Think how long Final Fantasy would take to download for example.

Automatic download doesn't really do anything for me, I don't have a problem with the way that the system works at the moment. I put a game in, if it needs updating then it tells me, it automatically downloads and installs the patch and then I carry on playing the game, not a problem.

To be honest, Automatic Download should be there for free.

I don't even see it as an issue to be honest. Unless it updates when your console is in standby then it doesn't really seem to offer much advantage. It will be highly unlikely to be able to update another game while you're playing a different game so the only other options that offer more convenience than the current system would be downloads while the system is in standby. Besides, you'll still have to stop everything else to begin the install of the patch so I see this feature as a bit of a let down.

I hope party chat - if it ever comes - isn't lumped in with this.

That would be a pure slap in the face if it was bundled in with "PlaystationPlus". In my opinion it's the only difference between the 360 and the PS3's online gaming capabilities. I can certainly see it being chargeable though, Sony no doubt know that it's what the majority of their fan base wants and they know that those customers on the whole will be happy to pay for that feature. I would definitely pay for it, but I certainly wouldn't be happy in doing so.

Thinking about it, I dunno if it would be possible for them to do so. I mean, surely they can't have 2 seperate firmware editions? Party chat would have to come via firmware update so the only way I could see them controlling who gets it would be to only allow the download to subscribers, which wouldn't work as all consoles online need to be running the same FW....

Or something.

I don't know to be honest. Maybe it's possible that a firmware update is released for everyone, in that firmware update the party chat is located, but you need a certain code to "unlock" the party chat, so everyone gets it, but only the subscribers can use it.

Damn. You destroyed my hope. :(

Mine too! :(

Although to be fair, if party chat does come I would actually pay the yearly subscription purely for that feature, it would make talking to you guys a whole lot easier with comms enabled while we are all in different games. I wouldn't be happy paying for it but then you have to look at Sony's position in this and see that it's a feature they can make money out of and they already do a decent job in giving us the PSN for nothing. :)

Prices:

€14.99 / £11.99 for 90 days and €49.99 / £39.99 for a whole year

It seems in the UK/EU :

"if you sign up for a 1 year membership between 29th June and 3rd August, we’ll also throw in a free downloadable copy of the award winning LittleBigPlanet." - That you can keep forever.

and the guy in the PlayStation blog confirms the free games (1 PSN game, 2 minis, 1 PSone Classic per month) stop working when your sub stops.

ON the surface it sounds like just the free games would be worth the £40 a year but I am not interested in minis and I bet the PSn game each month will be old or crap. USA get Wipeout HD in month 1, although I suspect the selection of giveaway games will vary by regions.

Wouldn't be easier, because I wouldn't pay for it. :p

When you say the games 'stop' when your sub runs out I assume they mean you can't download any more games, or does it mean that the ones you have downloaded for free while still subscribed will stop working when your subscription runs out? Also, I'd love the 1 free PSone Classic each month if it wasn't for the fact that there's too high a risk of it being a ****ty Disney effort.

You're a goddamn tightass!

The ones you get free (4 a month) will stop working when you end your subscription, even though they are downloaded. I guess some sort of DRM or expiry date.

People have found references to Cross game chat on the playstationplus pages. I can't see them myself, so either a mistake, or a leak, or a future feature.

The text (according to people who read it on the blog site) said:

“Cross-gam e Voice Chat: invite your friends to chat online no matter what game you’re all playing, even if they aren’t members of PlayStation Plus.”
Edit: x Game Chat may be part of FW 3.40 which is on 29/06

I wouldn't pay for the cross game chat anyway. I generally just chat to people when playing the same game as them.
