i'm considering it for apps2sd. i'm having to remove apps every other day to try new stuff out. it's getting old real fast!

i'll give it till the end of the month, after that, if there's no announcement i'm rooting this tooter
 
cheers robbo. I'll check that out after a few weeks ownership I reckon. I've had it a day and don't think i've scratched the surface of what it has to offer yet!

Indeed, I don't think there's much point in Rooting unless you find yourself thinking "Gah, I wish this wasn't here/wish I could do this", until then, just enjoy it as it is :)
 
yea, i've also read about a boost in battery life from certain roms which sounds very appealing.

just out of interest what situations have you come across where you wanted to do it but couldn't?

Well when I rooted it, there wasn't anything really specific, I just wanted to try the custom roms that were better for the battery and made the phone faster.

Things like Shootme are nice to have so you don't need to use the SDK to take screenshots.

Also, ROM Manager is out now and makes flashing new ROMs/backing the phone up a joy to do!
 
I've just installed my first custom rom (Defrost) using Rom Manager. Everything went fine but I seem to have lost my Phone and People apps. When I press either of these I get told the application isn't installed. Tried to recreate the the shortcuts but these apps don't appear in the list. Bit of a bummer as I can't call anyone:p.

Anyone else had this?

Don't they do an account where you pay like £5 a month to get extra stuff?

Im with Barclays, pay £5 a month and get things like Holiday Insurance, Mobile Insurance, breakdown cover and some other stuff
 
Loaded some custom roms last night, got everything working ok. However I've restored my original rom today and now I don't seem to be able to use the market. I can login fine but when I try to download anything it just gets stuck on "starting download". Same if I use AppBrain as well.

Market works fine on my other roms, just my original one won't work. Any ideas?

Did you change your Gmail account to .gmail from Googlemail?
 
Can't wait for 2.2, apps2sd is a big one for me. Not interested in rooting at the moment. Can wait a month or two for the official release, not wanting any bugs on my Desire.

I am the same, however I am interested in rooting just because I keep running out of space and cannot install anymore apps :(
