this chancellor lark is easy, I just saved 160bn using that bbc calculator! lol
I doubt it would ever come back down.
I also hope if it does go up they do not put it up on petrol. Or if they do add it to petrol they then decrease the petrol tax to take that into account.

Very little chance of that! Motorists always get screwed in the budget, and as we have been told everyone is getting screwed in this one, motorists will probably get extra screwed.
Personally I don't think we are in for just five years of pain,it will be much much longer.
I doubt it would happen, but I think Osborne and Alexander would be missing a trick if they didn't do this, it would be a very popular move that wouldn't cost that much, and would help set the tone of fairness that they are aiming for...
We shall see though.
Your saying it would be a very popular move to increase tax on petrol again?![]()
I swear to God, if one more person I speak to says the emergency budget was prompted solely by belligerent bankers - and they should be duly punished, I may explode. DEFICITS are not caused by bankers.
I feel I can confide in you OcUK.
No, it would be a very popular move to cancel the two planned increases that Darling left, and offset any vat rise with a duty reduction.
Surprisingly almost everyone one that has been whining to me is either a Labour voter or one of those "not voting" types. They're also all atheists, although I think that's unrelatedUnfortunately, the ability to actually think is not required to express an opinion, or indeed to vote, which is why we get so many stupid but popular decisions from our governments.
The above is just another example of abject stupidity and refusal to accept responsibility, usually from Labour voters.

You want things cheaper, so MORE people buy them, and more shops are needed to sell them, and more ships are needed to import the extra goods, and more dockworkers, and ship captains, and ship hands, and delivery drivers and stock checkers, etc, etc are needed.
Selling more = good, selling less = bad, very very very bad.

Please reread my post. The key word is "solely".The deficit was caused mostly by the reduced tax take during the recession. To say the deficit wasn't caused by the bankers is also to say the recession wasn't caused by the bankers. If the bankers were at least part responsible for the recession then they were also in part responsible for the deficit.
