Hi

Car needs new Disc and pads all round, going to get braided hoses as well :)

Car is a Impreza 2.5 STI Hawkeye (06-07)

I have the Sti Bembo Calipers, Current Pads are Mintex, no idea what disc are on there...

Wondering what makes/combination people would recommend, I got a bit of time to save so need to see what sort of money I need to set aside etc.

Regards and thanks

I'd probably go with either brembo pads, some pagid's, or EBC yellow stuff.

Discs, no idea what comes standard on the car, but i'd imagine its Brembo branded discs, nothing wrong with just going with those again.

I'd be budgeting for between £500 and 750 going off my LCR.

Why not? Out of interest

what he said ;-)

I had them on my last car...there where great, I tracked this car and lets say I got some bad fad, would like to go on the track again so it was something I want doing before I go out on track again (as well as new disc/pads)

Normal hoses are perfectly fine for the job, waste of money imo.

A braided steel brake line does give less expansion under pressure than a rubber hose - but the margin is extremely small (less than 1%).

They need frequent inspection for damage and depending on what you get can be less flexable than rubber hoses which is not great on a road environment.

What? They are more resilient than rubber hoses and are less susceptible to being split or gouged by debris.

The ONLY reason to not want them is cost. I fail to see any real downsides however.

Resilient from what exactly? They can rust too, and have a shorter overall lifespan. Some flex worse than rubber, this isn't a great thing.

They are just as susceptable as a component, if something is flying fast/hard at a rubber reinforced line enough to slice it, a braided line in comparison isn't going to come away unscathed either.

Believe what you like, I'm only telling you what i know.

There are downsides, like I mentioned. I didn't feel much difference with them, I'd rather get larger brakes and good fluid.

No you're not, you're asserting your opinion as fact as always.

How?

By saying some of them are not a good idea? If you do read what I said, I never said all of them are perhaps 'poor'.

And those that aren't, are almost pointless other than the point of bling?

You done your rear brakes once, well done son. Now get over it.

Is there any need to be rude and condescending or do you need to be bitter and twisted all the time?

There's loads of cars on the road with braided hoses, my father has used braided lines in the past and they have been fine and also saw a noticeable improvement on braking feel. Just because they made negligible difference to you, doesn't mean they are crap and not suitable for use just because you deem them so.

Yes, Janesy there is.

I raised, in my opinion and from experiences, as to why this man should not waste money or time getting those hoses.

For you to go 'snigger snigger' ignore him, while offering no counter argument for my points shows you to be devoid of knowledge (other than the drums on the back end of a fiesta)

As I say, come back and argue something about it then I might not want to rip the pish out of you.

Jumped up wee bugger now are we?

I never said they were 'crap' or 'not suitable'.

I said I wouldn't use them on the road, and when asked told people the reasons why I believed.

I suggest you cut the attitude, and start reading the operative parts of sentences janesy before I make you look even more of a prat son.

Cause believe me, I'll go out my ******* way to do it.

I am also speaking from experience, if you want to disregard my opinion because the only work you know of was a pair of drums, then that's fine by me.

Braided hoses, why do they need more inspection than a normal hose? Considering the extra protection they have? Surely a normal hose will require inspection as frequently?

Do you have any evidence other than 'well I didn't notice it' to say that braided hoses don't offer any benefit to braking feel?

This is the typical 'I know better than you, so I will shout you down' attitude I have come to expect from you. There's no need to call me jumped up and a prat, it's just uncalled for and childish.

Have you even read every post in this thread?

OP has taken it on the track and would like increased braking ability, braided will aid the ability along with new pads and discs.

Also telling someone to cut their attitude whilst you are belittling and insulting them is quit rich. ;)

Unless he's going to change them over when he's done on the track, or tow it home.. I would still want to raise those points.

I'm personally guessing, like most people however he'll just drive there and back.

Yes, I read before I comment.

He'd be better looking eslewhere to beat the fade.

Wow...I can't even be bothered, not worth my effort.

don't then

I don't care about my attitude, cause really its no better than what is displayed in here day after day stupid comment after stupid comment thread after thread.

motors has been royally wrecked with crap like this, and the so called 'expert' opinions from people who can't even read the thread they are commenting on
