I have always loved tatoos from been a child but have been told that they impact job opppurtunitys in a big way. All you have visible tattoos have they effected your life in such a way ? Not many people I know have them so I cant ask them.

I don't suspect that tattoos will be the first thing that prospective employers will worry about.

Serious answer - My ex had a fair few visible tats, she's doing fine working at HMV.

Im guessing it would depend on the work you're looking for, Doctors/lawyers etc I imagine its looked down upon.

It depends where you work, but I know one of my colleagues is being threatened with the sack if he doesn't cover up his tats and piercings. I had to shave off my mohi when I got my job too, but I think it's more of an issue in customer-facing roles.

I know my employer wants them covered up and not visable. If I was an employer Tatoos always would make me think hmmmmm whats this person like.

It really depends on the employer tbh, take a load of identical jobs, some may and some may not accept it.

I've never had a problem yet, but I haven't really had a chance to test that once tattoos went past my elbow. :P But hazard a guess that being a grease monkey it won't matter how many I have.

The only "visible" tattoo's are those on your hands, knuckles, face or neck, and if you're stupid enough to get 1 in any of those places anyway well, your own fault.

If you have 1 on your arm, cover it, it's not hard with a long sleeved shirt, so I don't see the whole problem, if you want a tattoo, get 1, just don't get it in a ****ing stupid place.

I've never had a problem. I've worked in offices and had my application for the Police and RSPCA accepted despite specifically pointing out about tattoos.

One office wanted me to take out my tragus piercing, but that was because i was Male, not because it was unacceptable. When I pointed out the 3 girls in the same building with the same piercing they mentioned no more about it, although I ended up taking it out anyway. They were never bothered about the tattoos.

Visible tatts help you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs (particularly as a sailor, gang member or deathrow murderer).

Glad to know the sarcasm patrol is still rife on here :P not to mention the question was aimed at those that have tattoos and have come across dificulties in the past or present.

Years ago when I worked in an office, I only had one tattoo and an ear piercing, both were frowned upon and I had to cover up the piercing.

I now work for myself (Window Cleaner) have since got rid of all piercings but have tattoos on both my arms - depending on the customer I do sometimes wear a long sleeve top as I know there would be a few who wouldn't appreciate it. Also when starting with a new customer, I normally cover them up to start with, in case anyone might find them intimidating or pre-judge me as some sort of crack smoking fudge nudger.

If you have your face tattooed then I can imagine this will cause some problems in getting a job, however if you can cover your tattoos by wearing a shirt+suit (whatever you wear when going for a job interview) then you will have no issue at all. I believe only visible tattoos in some jobs needs to be covered ie NHS jobs, and that's it, just so you don't upset some people.
