Spanish train kills 12 on tracks

Horrific but despite they say it's common practice to take the chance of jumping over the train lines, it's still an idiotic thing to do.

Horrific :(. Just head this on the radio news.

Reading the article it seems it was common place to use the other door (on the track side), jump down and nip across if the station was busy. Glad not everyone did that used the crowded underpass.

I always wonder how you fail to notice a huge train thundering towards you.

I used to work at a railway station. Its scary just how quickly those fast trains can close down on you. You see them down the line and within 5-10 seconds they're going past.

I don't know if its the same everywhere in Europe but in eastern europe lots of stations don't even have proper platforms, it's common practice to walk across several sets of tracks to get to your train.

I've also been to one station where the shortcut to the village is to cross a big viaduct, people wait for the train to go then walk across it, they don't usually come more than every 10 or 15 minutes - usually!
