I hope its a joke :p

Macrumors say it isn't :(

I still hope its a joke :p

Edit: It has been confirmed by Apple in an official statement. :/

Wow just wow...thats terrible from apple to actually fob off the whole reception issue....hmmm im no longer sure i will get one now...if thats how apple take their stance

Thats a big middle finger to all the apple loyalists and i sincerely hope that they now turn their backs on apple for showing utter disregard to their customers....shame on Apple.

I can't believe jobs' response there. I'm going to cut down my spare Payg sim and test the phone tonight when I get it. If true, and I can kill every call just by holding the phone properly, it's going back.

Possibly this is a good thing for me as I'll save a couple of hundred quid as I believe second hand nexus 1s are about 300 aren't they?

Signal issue here too left hand only. Suspect it's a fault across the board and that those in the strongest signal areas won't see it at first until they travel somewhere with weak signal. I get a consistent 2-3 bars of non GPRS signal at home so this cuts out during calls.

Annoying but usig the other hand will suffice as a fix until they recall or replace - still a very nice piece of kit

You cant defend this. Next thing they'll tell us your toilet will only flush only if you sit down on your right cheek.

I was getting one, but not until this is fixed. You don't buy a porsche and live with the fact that it can't go up hill and be told to live in somewhere flat. You won't accept that then why would you accept this.

Even fanboy can't defend this. Unless they sell it as iPod touch.

It is a very silly design flaw, but part of me can't help but think that this is being made to sound worse that it is in reality, just because it's Apple and it's the iPhone. It's been proven that other phones have reception issues if you hold them in a certain way, it's just that they weren't as "big" so didn't get the media coverage. Plus although a lot of people can replicate the issue, it makes me wonder how many are actually affected if they use the phone normally without trying to replicate it.

Mine should arrive tomorrow, but as I hold phones in my right hand I don't anticipate any issues for me. I'll be happy with it as it is, but if a recall is announced then so be it, expensive lesson learnt by Apple :p

The numbers might seem more than it is as people will good working phones are less likely to post their experience or banging on about it.

On the other hand, those that with problems, as you can see in lots of youtube videos now, are not exerggerated. The signal drops, the screen is not lying to you.

Get 5 bars here, yet if I hold the phone in my left hand (where the bottom left is naturally sat in the cup of my palm) to browse the net or write an email the signal is dropped completely in less than a minute. Pretty shocking really.

Can we have a poll to see how many iPhone 4 users are experiencing the signal problem??

Apple are getting off lightly, precisely because they are Apple. I can't help but think they are abusing the loyalty of their customers to be honest, ultimately they know they can. As other people have said imagine if this was a Microsoft phone.

As for Steve Jobs's response it is frankly disgusting.

That's the reverse for us  This is what the 3GS did for us, but now we have the iPhone 4 it always stays at full strenght

Not sure I agree with that, the amount of bad reports already and the fact it made the BBC site suggests this isn't something that's being ignored. As I said, other phones have had a similar issue, and it's hardly been reported.

As for MS, I have a feeling people would expect such a blunder and just go "meh" ;)

Something I was wondering actually, does it still do it if you have the tips of two fingers either side of the "break" in the banding?

That's an awful response from Apple...

I don't think I can use it as a phone - I've tried holding it a different way but it seems almost that as soon as I pick it up, the reception drops!

Yes various websites are reporting it but you seem to be missing the response from Apple and the email Job's sent.

How old is the Nokia phone that people are using as an example!

Oh and I'm not anti Apple, I have an iPhone!

Hmm, this is about the first apple gadget for a while I didn't pre-order although I do want one - must be fate :D

I wonder if they will sort it, and if so how fast and simply how without a minor redesign

On the plus side, had a play with one yesterday in the Apple store in Kingston... the screen is truly as good as the hype, and the video camera seemed superb :)

Apple should just give free cases for people that have the issue, it'll make everyone happy :)

Not everyone sadly. There are a lot of people out there who hate cases and specifically use shields instead. I am one of those people who would rather have an issue-less phone then an ugly bumper, which apparently don't even fit the universal dock templates for the iPhone 4...

Every iPhone generation is rushed out the door, but this is pretty much the worst in that area.

Now affected users (yours truly inc) are stuck in a situation where they could return it to an apple store, and perhaps get a refund - but can't get a new version because stocks are all reserved or sold out.
