Is this capable of going to Aberdeen and back without me comitting suicide?! :D I've had to borrow it from my mum as my 320D is awaiting a new windscreen after a pigeon decided to end it all on the A41 and i was nominated to win the prize, they had the wrong glass when i went there and its stuck until Monday. Meanwhile i have to do a roundtrip to Aberdeen for work training on Monday, so my dad will collect my car while i borrow the Micra. A few questions, is this thing really motorway capable? Will i be better off just not trying to overtake anyone? Also is the default minimum seating position height really that high? no secret to lower it more? :o I'm really trying to get my dad to lend me his Legacy GT-B twin-scroll but he won't budge

I would seriously consider hiring a car. Even a diesel mondeo or vectra would make your commute a great deal easier.

It'll get you there and back - it won't be very nice but at the end of the day it's transport.

No point being a car snob if it's only for one journey - OcUK will have you renting Mondeos or something but it's just not worth the cost really.

If it's something you had to do once a week then change your car, but for one trip it'll be fine.

Micra will be fine. It's not going to explode in a pile of sparks having done 100+ miles at 70mph. Micra is not as capable as your Bimmer for long distance sustained cruising but certainly fit for purpose.

It'll get you there but you will want to commit suicide. Bring loud music to drown out the sound of the engine screaming on the motorways.

I couldn't do that in something that crappy and uncomfortable, 500+ miles maybe 10 hours of driving on average? Unless you're a midget...

Infact scratch that, hire a car, thats a horrible prospect.

Another vote for the train, sod that drive in a Micra.

Or fly, that might not be too much dearer than the train at short notice.

Depends on what you regard as being 'worth the cost' really. I'd deem it to be well worth spending money on hiring a car fit for purpose if I was going to spend overall nearly 9hrs and cover 500+ miles in it each way.

People are just being car snobs.

I have a 10 year old micra that won't get changed until I graduate. Yes it has no power, yes it has no electric windows, yes it has no air con.

But really, oh noes my fancy beemer is broken how can I possibly live with something slower/smaller?

Public transport is for losers, use the micra.

For 75% of the trip he'll be sat at 70mph on a motorway. His BMW may have slightly nicer seats and he knows he could boot it at anytime but really at the end of the day the Micra will sit at 70mph on a motorway and get him there.

I'd much rather spend however much hiring a derv Mondeo would cost on a nice weekend away, big night out with the lads or something on his BMW.

Got it in one. Back when I was a uni student I'd do 250+ miles long distance in an 9 year old 1.0 Nova with 45bhp and a 4 speed gearbox. It wasn't painful and didn't cause me to contemplate suicuide. I'd much rather do the same trip now in my current car, but the Nova was perfectly fit for purpose.

Rent a Mondeo? - if you're rich then so be it. Otherwise take your mother up on the kind offer to borrow her car and blow some cobwebs off it.

He'll probably average around 60mph. That's a long time in a car seat that's not made for those sorts of journeys.

If work are sendig you there, get them to get you a car or pay for train.
