hey i just got a tax rebate :) and want a new graphics card and new case. my budget is at most £200 for both.

ive been looking at this case

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-016-NX&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=35

and this graphics card

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-238-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1711

my current setup is

cpu - opteron 165 @2.6
ram - 2gig ddr
gpu - 8800gt
psu - 750w with 33amp 12v rail
onboard sound etc
22" monitor at 1680x1050

i will be planning on upgrading cpu/motherboard.ram etc at a later date

any advice on if the 5830 is overkill or would a 5770 be enough?

plus what could i get for my 8800gt with a Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 cooler with 2 120mm fans?

I'd get a 5770 with that setup and 1680x1050 gaming. They use a lot less power too.

Then you have more to use on your case.

8800GT, probably around £50-60.

£50-£60 for an 8800 gt is highly unlikely more like £35 if you are lucky might get that on an auction elsewhere though if someone's that naive.
Might get £40 here if you included the s1 and fans though.

5770 would be a nice boost from an 8800gt but not that massive tbh think of the 5770 as a 4870 or gtx 260 but with dx11 and far less power consumption so i'd still go with a 5770 looking at the other components.
The 5770 is the new 8800gt/4850 bang for buck card.

I'd advise to get one with an open style cooler too those reference design leaf blower coolers are far noisier and provide worse noise vs temperature cooling from my experience.
I have never thought damn wish I got a card with a cooler exhausting air out the back even in xfire it's not going to be an issue if you have decent case intake and exhaust.

That case would be fine with that setup nothing wrong with that case for that price.

I think that the 5830 is expensive for what it is (IMO), but the 5770 has DX11 support, uses less power and produces less heat. These information given by you is really nice, I really like these and also hope that many people wiil also like these.

The 5830s are around £165 now, and the 5770 are around £130. There is a pretty big performance increase, but they do use a lot of power.

The 5830 has DX11 support by the way...

I find that the 5830 is great for 1920x1200 gaming, so for 1680x1050 the 5770 should be fine. Obviously depends on the game, but I play Crysis (medium settings) and Grid (ultra-high) on my 5830 with decent enough framerates. As long as it's over 30fps I don't really care what it is. :p

To be honest you might as well get the 5770 considering your current setup, if you're not bothered aim for second hand as 5770 prices seem a bit inflated at the moment (they go for about £100 second hand. A 5770 will do everything you need of it plus they clock well too.

Nobody pick up on the 750w PSU with only 33A on the 12v rail? What is it may i ask? Considering the CX400 has 30A this looks a tad suspect. Might be worth getting a 5770 a case and PSU. Which is doable for 200 quid.

Thanks for the advise peeps. The make of the psu is win power, i know its a bit poo and was thinking of selling the 8800gt and putting the extra towards a new psu.

as for the new card, how does the 5770 overclock? i meen how close will it be performance wise to the 5830 when the 5770 is overclocked? i was thinking of getin the Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770 CuCore if i decide on a 5770.

plus what psu u recomend i get?

Which power supply depends on your future plans really but 33a should be enough easily for a single 5770 if it's a true 33a and not some made up number.I'd stick with that psu and see if it's fine first.

If you are going for one of the expensive 5770's then it would be just as well to go for a 5830. You can get them for less than £160 if you look around.

That case is hideous. Please choose something better. The cheap Coolermaster's are a good place to start looking. ;)

Winpower psu's, while not top quality, are better than some of the cheap makes. It would do for now but replace it with a quality psu when you can afford it.

It's ugly yea but the features seem fine ? front fan 2 top fans 1 rear exhaust 2 sides and good cable management.

thats what i was thinking, dont really care to much about what it looks look on the outside to be honest, i would prefer have better cooling options etc.

As for the graphics card ive pretty much made my mind up on the Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770 CuCore version cuz of the better cooler and my intention was to overclock it to at least 1000 on the core, as i think the 5830 would be to much for my psu to handle.

I think ive decided on this case

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-020-NX&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=35

its got the same cooling features as the ugly one but looks a lot better aswell and not that much more expensive, says its out of stock though but hopefully i wont have to wait to long till ther in stock again

tbh i think the 5830 would have been the better choice , myself i am thinking of replacing my crossfired 5770's for crossfired 5830's . but then again i have a psu that would cope

NZXT cases are always good value for money. I've got the original Beta classic, and the only things it lacks (cpu backplate hole, cable management options, roof fans) are remedied in the evo. I will say that it's a bit cramped inside if you have a full ATX board and isn't great for noise insulation.
