Welsh Independance

Such a damned shame that we can't all work together. This is the mdoern age for crying out loud! The English don't go around killing Highlanders are shooting Celts anymore. We all benefit when we work together.

If Scotland or Wales want independance then give it to them and watch as they come back five years later.

Fixed

You never had anywhere near all of our castles, and those that you did capture... you could never keep hold of them.

;)

Let's face it, we won't need castles as there will never be independence. :p

We will all carry on as one happy country. :)

Hot steamy balls.

I love sweet and sour balls.
"“In future we will be looking to discuss Shetland's constitutional future with the Scottish Government with a view to securing the best possible deal.”

The opinions of one man, and neither does it look like he resents being involved in Scotland as a country either.

He is talking about home rule or devolved power for the islands from Scotland, not independence.

You can also find columnist to say pretty much whatever you want to say these days, you have free thinking people with opinions everywhere. Doesn't make it a consensus.

How many people do you know from Shetland gaiden?

Spent much time there? I have many friends over the water.

They see themselves as multicultural, but intrinsically Scottish at the same time.

Although I am not going to debate the finer points of the Scottish identy with a man who claimed in all seriousness that Scotland wasn't a country in the first place.
Please don't derail this thread. It is about Wales not scotland. :)

How much is support for plaid cymru growing?

is it not just in contrast to the decline of labour?

I personally think England and wales are too connected personally, again I think the main driver here is perhaps the cultural/political divide but that alone.

I think the assembly did its job in wales, neutering the independence rally chant.

Well he is the Convener of the Shetland Council and he is talking about semi automony from the Scottish parliament as it stands currently, not in an independent from Westminster Form.

For most islanders, identity lies at home: we are Shetlanders, whatever that may mean. And while Shetlanders today are usually willing to describe themselves as Scottish, this has not always been the case. Until not very long ago, to be Scottish in Shetland was a more heinous crime even than being English!
Culturally, historically and, of course, geographically, Shetland is different from Scotland. And it has never voted SNP.
BTW, my maternal Grandparents live in Shetland, near Gremista. And they see themselves as Shetlanders, not Scottish and would be insulted to be called Scottish. :p

No I did not, you completely misinterpreted something I said regarding the independent status of Scotland regarding the European Union. You are full of it.

Thats exactly what I just explained to you Gaiden, you said they didn't want to be apart of us and be independent I said they did not, the case is for devolution of power from the Scottish Government.

Well, its one man and his opinion. He will have retired by 2012 anyway.

Insulted? Doesn't suprise me given the state of your views. Again, hardly a consensus is it.

18.5% in the european parliament elections an increase compared to the last one.
Worth noting that their vote fell slightly to 11.3% in the 2010 elections.
However they did well in the 2007 assembly elections , they got 22.3% of the vote.

Bioshock and gaidin , please save this debate for another thread.. this topic is supposed to be about wales not scotland.

Gaiden, even Dolph had to jump in and correct you by saying you were wrong and I was right.

Did he misinterpret what you said as well?

You then ran back, and changed your post.

There was no notion on your behalf that you were placing it in the context of europe, neither did you mention it. You just went 'Well Scotland isn't a country anyway' because you were looking like a tool.

You simply said Scotland as a country does not exist. I had to explain to you that the UK was a unitary state made up of the constinuent countries, Scotland England NI and wales and that they were all countries.

Squirm all you like, I know you are a walter mitty. Scientist business man ex marine privately educated power ranger.

My Views? I'm all for the UK to United in nature as well as name. Do away with all this devolution rubbish and save the money. Treat Scotland as a region much like any other UK region, but of course that means Scotland is not a Country doesn't it..

You're just sore that if Shetland declared their independence from both the UK and Scotland (which is what they want) then the economic model Alex Salmond is relying on falls apart as most of the Oil revenue and Fishing rights would be Shetlands.

No, your just sore because you chatted crap about sovereignty to someone in the hope that it went over their head and they didn't know otherwise.

And it didn't work.

Now leave the poor mans thread alone.

I honestly don't see why this isn't said louder, or isn't more of a political movement down south in England.

If I was English I don't think I'd be happy with the unions.

If we all cost you money, why keep paying for us?

Because we won and we're keeping you.

... Or we can fight it out again :p

Ah here we go the insults arrive. You didnt have to explain anything, you choose to ignore something you misunderstood. Scotland is not an idependent country, that was what I meant.
