So just to clarify Root means that we will very shortly be getting 2.1/2.2 and possibly Sense on this phone? Or are we a long way from that yet?

Also what has the new firmware/update done for the phone? My Desire still isn't in stock and with a definate root I'm very tempted to head back into the X10 camp...

Root just means you have administrator access to the phone basically.

To update / change firmware you need access to the boot loader, which at the moment is still locked.

well theres no 'real' change between se1.6 and 2.1 either

at least root allows under/overclocking and to remove the SE default apps that use up memory/cpu/power . other handy things like wifi tethering and 'proper' blutooth

think the devs have said you can force the bootloader while the phones running but its pretty risky

Only real change i'd be looking at between 1.6 and 2.1 (other than the very few programs that only work on 2.1) is the extra screen colours. The screen really isn't as nice as the Desires, most of that would be sorted if the X10 displayed 16m colours instead of 65k. :)

Also Sense is still a really big draw. As much as timescape is good a single program isn't going to swing it. :)

We still running at 65k? Lol, I thought that was addressed with the first update. I still can't get the Telenor update to install.

EDIT - Every time I change the new files names and replace the old file with them; the update service says there is no update available. I tried Ominus but couldn't get it to work - the phone turns on properly so the program says its not connected.

The 65K colours is a limitation of Android 1.6 :(

will take 20 mins at most if you already have SE's drivers and java

infact it could be quicker because step 2 gives the actual root. step 3 just updates baseband from jap025 to 020 and step 4 just adds some crap apps and removes some good ones.

im considering starting over and skipping step 4. could just remove moxier and other stuff myself with an uninstall apps

This is annoying, can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. I registered for the application (omnius) but when I try and log in when the program is loaded, it says invalid username. I try forgot password and it says my email doesn't exist. I have registered my account and validated it through my email.

And I can't even get the program to work. What ever I do (keep on holding back button or let go once the program has recognised it) - the phone just turns on and drops the connection. I just can't seem to update either way. I blame NVP (for his sick joke) and SE :p

Right got that sorted. So once I eventually get it to stay connected to my phone for more then 10 seconds, then what? Flash, and select both of the files that come in the (zip) update?

open program

select x10

click flash

locate the .zip's (biggest one in top )

click ok

you will be presented with a screen telling you to connect your x10 in flash mode with instructions .

then from there it takes over

All rooted.

The first part is a pain in the ass. However, few things I am noticing.

1. The firmware version isn't R2BA020, as the baseband is different.
2. It's a bit baggy in places compared to the R2BA020.
3. My headphones no longer work.

So I am not sure at the mo if this is going to stay on here.

Sorry for being slow today but what do you mean by the zips? I have tried selecting the two files (115mb/16mb) used in the firmware updates and the whole zip file itself. Both say wrong files used.

Do you mean from Omnuis?

If so you have to unzip the downloaded filed which then gives you 2 files in which to flash the phone with.
